Quick-and-easy colour injection

It’s easy to slip into the habit of sporting one look day-in and day-out. Even with a world of beauty products at my fingertips I still regularly fall victim to using a few select make-up items in the exact same way, every day. And believe me, it gets very boring (more so for me or the people looking at me I’m still not sure).
So whenever I’m feeling particularly uninspired at the thought of putting my slap on in the morning, I switch one of my ol’ faithful neutrals for something with a touch of colour and my look feels like new. Go on, try it yourself – you know you want to!
- Ditch your everyday black eyeliner in favour of a brighter hue like Inika Mineral Cosmetics Organic Eye Liner in Green Lagoon, or Max Factor Kohl Pencil in Ice Blue. To ensure you look more chic than clown-like, apply it around the inner or outer corners of your eyes and blend it into a complementing soft-hued shadow.
- Substitute your usual French or neutral polish for something with a bit more pizzazz. Opt for the usual summer suspects of bright corals, berry reds and out-there pinks, with a shade like Australis Cosmetics Nail Colour in Pink Pluto. Alternatively, pick a deep purple or midnight blue with a slight shimmer (I love OPI Ink) – they work a treat when picked up in the sunlight.
- The quickest (and most seductive) burst of colour comes by way of your pout, meaning millions of opportunity to play around with different shades and gloss finishes. Start subtle with a tinted gloss such as Maybelline New York Shine Seduction Glossy Lip Color, or take it straight to the max with MAC Slimshine Lipstick.
- If you stick to the pinks when it comes to your blush, why not try a peach-tinted product every once in a while, or vice-versa? You’ll be amazed at how a simply the colour substitution will instantly change your face. Try Almay Powder Blush in Pink, or Elizabeth Arden Color Intrigue Cheek Compacts in Peach Sorbet.

How do you spice up your make-up style?

how gorgeous is her eyeshadow!
I usually go for a bold, red lip colour. It instantly makes me feel confident though sometimes when I catch people look at me I worry they're thinking, "eww, what was she thinking!?"

I have only in the last 12 months or so branched out into more colour. I love coloured eyeliners and have recently started wearing eyeshadow in colours other that neutral :)

I'm stuck in a "teal phase" at the moment. I've gotten used to blending teal into my lower lash line and pairing it with a metallic or dark matt brown. I need to get out of this colour and onto others. Great tips in this article.

I'm into purples in the outer corners of my eyes so I've collected a few different brands purply coloured eyeliners and eyeshadows. I've also a gorgeous silver which I add to the inner corners of my eyes. I have a beautiful gold also for the inner corners of my eyes and this one really glitters and is great for party-type atmospheres i.e. Chrissy, birthday party or special night out. Love this article - I love variety! On a normal day I'll go brown or black mascara & eyeliners for a more natural but polished look.

Yes, I have caught the makeup bug called E. shadowii :D I was stuck in the brown/earthy shade rut and was afraid to experiment. Thanks to the lovely forum ladies for the encouragement and "can we do it" thread, I am addicted to pretty colours and I am surprised when a bright colour looks good on me!

A bold or shimmery lip shade is my fave way to spice up my makeup! I also like to switch between a few different blushes, bronzers and illuminators to highlight and contour my face differently. Then, there's the fun of experimenting with an array of eyeshadows! I'd love to try out some different coloured eyeliners, like you do, Deb. Ice blue and green lagoon sound like such gorgeous colours to use. Variety is the spice of life, isn't Softness?! : )

I used to stick to pinks for blushes, but about 6 months ago discovered peachy hues, and now I'm hooked! Love having options.. :)
I kinda go crazy on coloured liners too :) can't resist them!

I definitely need to explore more eyeshadow colours instead of sticking to my usual browns.

Lately I've been buying eye shadow samples online from various mineral makeup companies. Many colours are not ones that I'd not normally purchase. I've discovered some of these colours actually suit!

I like to try different nailcolours, lipglosses to keep things fresh. Little more hesitant to play with eyeshadow colours but like switching eyeliners for different looks (little more fail proof!) I prefer to play about with eyeshadow at night and keep it more natural and simple for day. Love this piccie, the colours really make those blue eyes pop!

Nikkifabf check out Target, the other day they had a set of dual-ended eyeliners for abour $15, think there were around eight pencil in the pack and they normally cost that for one or two. The brand I think was Chi Chi and I wish I'd gotten them myself now.
I have way too much makeup, going to post some pics of it all soon, so using colour isn't an issue for me except for deciding on which colour. On days where I really can't be bothered but still want to brighten my look up I use a coloured liner on my top and bottom lash line which I smudge gently then apply mascara. Very easy but still very bright.

I love the colours of the eye makeup, it looks so amazing! To spice up my make up I definitely love using two or three colours for my eyeshadow, followed by some eye shimmer to make my eyes really stand out! I also brush the shimmer across my cheekbones to define them! I also like to use my greeny-dark blue eyeliner to spice things up when I go out at night!

I bought a bright purple eyeliner- the Revlon matte one- which I used to spice up my look a little. But I haven't worn that in a while, I've been pretty boring lately!!
