I tilt my head back whilst applying, and that seems to stop getting mascara all over my eyelids. I've also tried holding a business card over the eyelids whilst applying and that also stops getting mascara on my skin.

Because I have really thin lashes, I wriggle my mascara into the base of them a few times without actually brushing out my lashes, to build up volume. Then, when I am happy with the amount of volume, I brush them out so I have heaps thick lashes with are still fluttery at the tips.

I slowly blink down on the brush while pushing the brush up the first few times, then do the wiggling action, and then focus on the ends of my eyelashes.

For some reason I have trouble with Mascara going all over my eyelids when applying - makes life hard if your wearing eyeshadow. I have found that a thinner wand reduces this, but my fave mascaras (Dior and YSL) both have thick bushy wands so I resort to cleaning up with a cotton bud.
Will try tilting head back and see if that works!

I look down slighlty and then do the zigag motion. I also take time to get right into the fine hairs in the inner eye with the tip, and hold my brush vertically to do the bottom lash line.

I have thin lashes so I find using a primer first works really well. The primer is white and goes on first to lengthen each lash. The mascara goes over the top and the result is thick, long gorgeous lashes and no smudging! Some primers come with the mascara but I have seen them sold seperately.

Thanks for the video Deb! I've been applying mascara like that but also with a looking down motion as I wiggle the brush :)

I always curl my lashes first, and then wipe my mascara wand on a tissue. After doing that I apply it in a wriggling motion, I find that the tissue trick really works stops me getting any clumps!

I always tilt my head back so I don't get mascara on my eyelids :P I find when i use a wriggling motion it can clump up a bit because i have thick lashes, so i hate to use a straight motion to then seperate them and even them out. I love rimmel and benifit mascara! I don't mind maybeline... I only like their first mascara which is great lash (the pink bottle mascara with the green top).

I tried 'training' myself not to open my mouth when putting on my mascara. I kinda failed. lol
I like to curl my lashes before and do the 'wiggling' motion. Pretty impressed with the stiletto range, love the stiletto liquid eyeliner.

Great video Deb, this is very similar to how I already apply my mascara. I find that when I take more time and attention to getting the wand right at the base of my lashes, the better the results that I can achieve.

thanks for the video, i am hopeless at mascara. I zig zag from the base of my lashes but find it very hard. I end up a black mess on my eyes. My lashes are teeny and wish they were longer. I recently purchased Great Lash Mascara and love it.Your eyelashes Deb looked magnificently long before applying mascara - you lucky girl. :)

I use the Clinique High Impact mascara and I always sort of "wipe" the excess mascara on the side of the tube to eliminate clumping. It's a good trick I got from my sister.

i prefer lengthen lashes with dense thich mascara, rather than wear fake lashes, a girl in my class always wear long eyelashes and they look sof fake ... come on, it's a class, don't have to wear heavy make up like that.
