Tips on when to change your foundation for the season

Time to get winter-ready?
As the seasons change, so do the results we want from our make-up, but when is the right time to pack up our summer foundations and switch to winter-ready foundations?
The answer? When you start to realise that your current foundation isn’t lasting as long on your skin due to the colder weather, or when you see a noticeable change in the weather.
Changing from a summer to a winter foundation is not all about changing your foundation colour or shade. However, the odds are you’ll be a little paler as your summer tan starts to fade – so it’s a great idea to have at least two foundations available, one the right shade for your tanned skin, and one a little lighter. Mixing them together can often produce just the right shade.
However, winter make-up isn’t only about changing your foundation shade. Here are our tips on what to look out for when choosing a foundation for winter:
- Swap your mattifying foundation for a dewy foundation. As shine isn’t a major concern in the winter, you can embrace a more radiant glow without the fear of an oil slick.
- Choose a foundation with adequate hydration, one that will inject your skin with the moisture shot it needs. We love La Prairie Anti-Aging Foundation SPF 15 for its nourishing and protective qualities.
When do you know it's time to change your beauty regime for the season?

I like to wear Revlon Colorstay all year round - but in Summer I put a mattifying powder over it to minimise shine. Have pale skin so I don't need to worry about seasonal colour change!

I like tinted moisturiser in winter under some foundation, and on its own in summer.

luckily - or unluckily as some of my friends view it - I am very pale and don't tan therefore I don't have to change my beauty routines when seasons change.

This is something I noticed particularly in winter. My regular summer foundation wasn't performing at its best! I think during autumn is when I need to start making the change to my winter foundation and by September I can change back! Thanks for the advice!

I just use a foundation that is one shade darker for summer, so it looks as if I had tanned.

I wear a lot of things all year round as I don't tan too often but I do seem to favor a brighter lip when the sun is shining.

I usually wear the same foundation all year round and a touch of bronzer during summer.. I only really change day moisturisers.. lighter lotions in summer so i dont feel to oily and a richer cream in winter to ward off dry skin.

I always have a couple of foundatiins on hand year round which I blend together to get my perfecy shade. Between my pallid winter complexion, my summer glow and any alternate fake tanning I need to make sure I have all bases covered. xx

In winter you skin is drier so I use a heavier moisturiser .. you can go for a lighter moisturiser with a SPF of course for summer.

I use Revlon colourstay oil control. It's easy to build a heavier coat if need to be. I also use the powder over the top.
