Video: trend how-to: berry and dark plum lips

We give you three ways to wear this stunning winter lipstick trend
I’ll bang on about dark, wine-coloured winter lips to anyone who’ll listen, but whenever I do, they all come back with the same response: “I’m too scared to wear that colour. It’s just a wee bit too dark and intense for me…”
Bullocks, I say! And you too will be nodding in agreement after watching my how-to video. Not only does it prove this berry, plumy trend is in fact wearable, but that there are three different ways to adopt it.
Still scared? I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: berry hues – be it raspberry, true berry, plum, merlot or even burgundy – are a super-wearable lip colour as they suit all skin tones and have the wonderful ability of making your eyes pop. (Find out which variation of the hue suits your skin colouring best right about here.)
So, in an effort to bring about a country filled with feminine, stylish-looking women this winter, I, along with Camilla Belle, Lily Collins, Kate Bosworth, Jessica Alba and Zooey Deschanel, am urging you to just give this trend a go. You’ll have fun, I promise…

I just tried on a deep red yesterday and remembered why I steer clear of these shades. I love the look of plum but it just doesn't look right on me.

Wow this is one classy vid - congrats Cherie! I could easily manage the ck one lipgloss (divine colour) as well as the L'Oreal lipstick, but I'd have to think about the really deep shade. But they are all gorgeous, and I feel a lot more comfortable going berry/plum now :-)
P.S. Adore your necklace by the way...

I love berry lips! I'm finding "plum" really confusing. So many really different colours are being called plum. There are dark reds, dark purples, dark yet bright pinks all being called plum.

All those ladies look great but they all have one thing in common: perfect skin and golden tans (Zooey excluded, although her lips are more of a cherry pinky-red). Unfortunately my skin is not perfect, even with foundation so I wouldn't attempt to wear these colours.

My fave berry/plum shades are from L'Oreal but I love a deeper plum such as L'Oreal Colour Riche Intense in Intense Plum 374 and L'Oreal Colour Riche Serum in Luminous Grape S203 - they are just perfect!

I love a wine coloured lippy, so many varieties of the shade.
Dark colour lippy can look quite seductive I think. Adds a bit of mystery to the wearer.

All three colours suit you really well Cherie. Whilst it looks great on others, I'm not sure the darker hue suits me.

I am one of those people who is scared of the dark coloured lips but I tried it the other day and I must admit that I didn't feel too conspicious with it on at the end of the day.

I do love the plums and darker shades, however I doubt I could wear bright red lipstick without looking dead! :P

I don't think I could pull of the dark lip, with my dark hair I think I would look a bit too goth. Great on blondes though !

Hi jodib,
You’re right – the shade of plum is a little confusing. The above video dabbled in wearing a couple of popular winter lip shades, including raspberry, deep berry and an intense plum.
Plum as a stand-alone colour is quite dark in comparison to berry hues (think Camilla Belle’s lip colour) and is more of a rich purple. However, it can still contain chocolate, red and even pink undertones. A peek at this page will show you all the variant of plum, too: http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plum_%28color%29 (Hint: there are a lot!)
The product formulation (read: stain, gloss or lipstick) will also alter the intensity of a plum coloured product, so this is something to be mindful of too.
