Splitsville: make-up to overcome a break up

  • Post a comment

So Jess and Justin have taken a trip to Splitsville (allegedly)…it’s happened to the best of us at some time or another and what better way to get over a break up than to seek comfort from your make-up.

A break up can leave you feeling far from beautiful but take some good advice from one of bh’s favourite celebrities Gwyneth Paltrow, who once said: “beauty, to me, is about being comfortable in your own skin. That, or a kick-ass red lipstick.” Hear, hear, Gwynie. How about one of these beauties for a killer red pout?  MAC Viva Glam Lipstick in Viva Glam, Covergirl Outlast Lipstain in Wild Berry Wink (more rosy than red but results in luscious lips all the same!), Revlon Matte Lipstick in Really Red, Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics Lipstick in Mystere.

Wipe away those tears (they’ll play havoc with your foundation) and brighten sad peepers with a few dabs of illuminator underneath the eyes. Try: Clinique Up-Lighting Liquid Illuminator. And just in case, apply lashings of Rimmel London 100% Waterproof Mascara.

Completely forget said boy’s (a.k.a rat) name by chilling out completely. How? By indulging in that massage you’ve been putting off since time began. My fave is a four-hand massage or aromatherapy massage. Check out a salon near you.

And while you’re in the process of ‘out with the old, in with the new’, apply the same principle to your make-up kit. You don’t have to go nuts but at least treat yourself to a few new additions.

Feeling a little better? Good, now go lock in a night out with that super confident girlfriend your ex-boyfriend didn’t approve of.

Yes a day of pampering will help ease the pain a little. Go spoil yourself to a new do, a facial, massage, manicure. The works!!! You'll feel like a million bucks!

Call my girlfriends and chat away!! They always cheer me up! Mind you, some pampering never goes astray! ; ) Then, the focus is on looking and feeling fabulous with a new exercise regime, outfit and style! Add a little Dutch courage via a cocktail or two and get ready to mingle like a single! Lol! : )

To feel better after a break up i'd get the girls together and have a girls night in or out :) pampering is always involved as what better way to feel great after a breakup than looking fabulous :)

Buying anything pretty always makes me feel better. As I get older my "thing for bling" is getting more extreme :)

To help with a break-up I once made a new friend altogether. That was actually kinda fun!! I love Gwynnie's comment about the red lippy! Soooo true!

Oh noooooo, this only reminded me of my break up recently! Umm haven't done anything lately to cheer up me up, but I'll probably rock a red lipstick next weekend if according to Gwyneth it'll make me feel better. Lol.

The best way for me is remembering why it happened, it always happens for a reason. And I think well Im better off being single and happy then in a relationship and very unhappy.! I think your better off being single being able to find yourself a man who appreciates and loves you then with a man who is unhappy and doesnt want you and thus wont treat you well.
Thats the best way I get over a breakup, and plus it reminds me of how independent and fabolous I am, being able to support myself, being able to buy skincare, makeup and clothes and loving myself. You have to focus on the positives
Plus if Ive never broken up with my last boyfriend I wouldnt be able to go out and meet my new soul mate-the man of my dreams, while of course wearing a red lipstick or was it that new mascara!

What works for me is to get my friends, and have a fanastic girly night in with facials, pedicures and watch bad movies and eat lots of ice cream!
Remembering the happy times together also makes you feel better.
But some retail therapy also wrorks too!

Yeah retail therapy also makes me feel good! I think its about doing something that is purely for yourself, something that makes you feel good about yourself.

Yes we've all been there, break ups are the worst and I believe there's no better time to pamper yourself!!! Us ladies deserve to blow the budget now and then and give ourselves a little TLC!! xx

I find that balling your eyes out and then getting a new hair style works wonders. That and a new outfit!

i used to scrub, rub, polish, mask and pamper myself, colour my hair to make it shiny and fresh (always choc - no drastic changes) then get all dressed up and hit the town.
i never dwelled on my breakups, i just moved on.

Ok so I must be the only one who got absolutley plastered sobbed my cares away in bed and woke up feeling alot better about myself and just got on with life. I hope I never have to do that ever again in my lifetime.

Shopping tends to be a key when I am feeling down and want to make myself feel better. I do feel good when indulging in retail therapy, however the sadness is reverted after the experience. So shopping is only a temporary fix. I believe in regular exercise, eating more healthy and looking after yourself using a good cleanser and moisturiser as opposed to caking on the make-up to conceal. I believe in getting a facial at a beauty salon to spoil oneself after a break-up or on rare occasions.
