Ingredient spotlight: evening primrose oil

Evening primrose oil (also known simply as ‘primrose oil’), is extracted from the seeds of the primrose plant. The ‘evening’ in the name arises from the fact that the flowers of the plant open in the evening and close by about noon the next day.
Traditionally used to alleviate symptoms of PMS and reduce inflammation, evening primrose oil contains about 10 per cent gamma-linoleic acid (GLA) and is a key source of omega-6 essential fatty acids – making it fantastic for your skin too.
Why? Essential fatty acids play a vital role within our bodies, and are…erm…essential for rebuilding and producing new cells. They work with the lipids in the skin to build and stabilise the skin barrier, protecting your complexion from environmental elements and free radical damage.
Evening primrose oil can also help to reduce redness and irritation, and provide relief from the symptoms of atopic eczema.

I definitely love primrose oil. It definitely helped with PMS but also made my skin look much better. I didn't realise this until I stopped taking it. Definitely will try it again.

I use to take evening primrose oil capsules. I have tried a small sampe of the Nivea Vital Triple Action Soy+ Day Care and was really happy with the results. It sounds great and good reviews on Beauty Heaven.

Wow, EPO sounds like a great supplement and ingredient for our skin. Thanks for all this interesting info, BH, NIVEA and Beauties. I recently learnt about the properties of sandalwood and how it’s used in perfume, which I found fascinating! : )

First time I've heard about EPO for the face. Does it help mature skin for this area as I normally use Oil of Ulan.

I regularly take these capsules for my eczema. But have only tried using the oil on my skin a few times, so never really noticed too much of a difference, I might try it again though after reading this info.
