Make-up school 101

I love make-up and like to think that I can make up a face that’s somewhat acceptable to take out in public. How did I learn these basic make up skills? To be honest, it’s a combination of lots of tips and tricks I’ve picked up over the years, from websites, magazines, girlfriends, and from watching my mum ‘put on her face’. But am I actually doing it properly?
When I landed this amazing gig working at beautyheaven my wonderful husband thought he’d help out and arm me with some make-up knowledge to give me a leg up in the job. So for my birthday he bought me a three-hour make-up lesson at Gorgeous Cosmetics (worth $150). After a quick moment of wondering if I should be offended (does he think I’m terrible at putting on make-up?), I was then overjoyed. While picking up techniques over time has been great, now I was getting the opportunity to learn from professionals – wowser, get me there now!
I had my three-hour one-on-one session with the lovely Carla at the Sydney City Gorgeous Cosmetics store. The great thing about the lesson is that it’s hands on. Carla demonstrated techniques on one side of my face, and then I had to use these techniques on the other side. Rest assured I didn’t come out looking half man half woman – it actually looked natural, as under the guidance of an expert how can you go wrong? Carla talked me through colour palettes, brushes 101, and the importance of primer, all the while getting to understand the best colours and ways to use make-up for me.
And they save the best part until the very end, with the cost of make-up school fully redeemable on product! So not only did I walk out of there with a face ready made up and a brain bursting with make-up knowledge, but I also picked a bag full of goodies. I was able to pick products that I knew worked with my skin tone and that I knew how to apply – what more could a girl ask for?
Dying to give the Gorgeous Cosmetics make-up lesson a go?

Funily enough, I feel gorgeous when I come home with no signs of make up smudges, panda eye or a oil-disaster on my face. When I think of how many people have seen my tragic make up application mistakes I cringe. I feel unbelievably confident when I see my make up has lasted the whole day without embarassing me. But unfortunately this only happens on the rare occassion !

I feel really gorgeous when I have time to really indulge! I start with a mask, homemade mani and pedi! nice long bath using all my favourite products and then my favourite! time to work on my masterpiece!!! I'm so lucky to have the best fiance in the world he is always so incredibly complimenting even when I feel rubbish! I have to say he always makes me feel gorgeous and like a true princess!
P.S WOW I would kill for this! I work right round the corner to Gorgeous Cosmetics in Brisbane!

My boyfriend makes me feel gorgeous everyday. It's great to have someone who can tell you that you look pretty 5 minutes after you get out of bed, with greasy hair and absolutely no make up on. And who also tells you that you are his best friend and he is the happiest person on the planet. Cheesy, but works wonders for my self esteem.
The other thing is the song by Babybird - "You're gorgeous" of course :) When I used to live with my two girlfriends we made it our motto for a year. We sticked pieces of paper with "you're gorgeous" written on them to the bathroom mirror and guess what - that's how we felt then ;)

I feel gorgeous when I am going out and have time to get ready and do my hair properly - which doesn't get to happen too often with a couple of small kids. Usually I am still trying to put my makeup and jewellery on in the car on the way out.

Really, really gorgeous? When I'm going to a wedding. For these occasions, I go all out... and become unequivocally un-natural and by that I mean, faux tan, faux nails, delicately curled lashes, carefully applied make-up, beautifully styled hair and a dab, or two, of gorgeous perfume.

I feel gorgeous when I get compliments on my eyes, my fringe, my shoes, the way I've put on my make up, my posing at a photoshoot, the way I can hold still while having my hair teased by a stylist, and my eyeliner done by a make up artist, my drawings, my writing or my modelling photos. Compliments keep me going sometimes, because without them I would forget that people care. When I remember that I feel gorgeous.

I feel gorgeous when I'm putting on my makeup and my 8 year old nephew comes in and tells me I look pretty. He even says I look beautiful without makeup! Best feeling ever! :)

when i feel the most gorgeous is not when i have my favourite makeup on , or a new perfume , or even a gorgeous new dress that makes me look soo sexy ! its when im at home , all natural & make up free with my boyfriend , with him showing me his love & care , at that moment he makes me feel the most gorgeous of all . i know in his eyes that i cpuld be the closest thing to perfect for him . at that moment , i feel the most gorgeous !

When I manage to create a really natural but polished look when I go out. Pair it with a nice dress and I feel confident and gorgeous!

I feel at my most gorgeous when everything just works, when my skin is clear, my hair sits just right then and I'm feeling healthy. On these days I feel that I don't need a lot of makeup to make myself look and feel good so I apply some tinted moisturiser and a splash of soft subtle colour in shades of gold, peach and apricot just to give me a lovely glow. Sadly these days are few and far between =D

I have been married for nine years and my husband has always had a way of making me feel gorgeous and sexy everyday. The way he looks at me and the way he touches my face before he kisses me makes me feel like the most beautiful woman in the world. The love of my good man and our beautiful children makes me sleep with a smile and wakeup with a smile.

What makes me feel really gorgeous is freshly shaven legs that are silky smooth, freshly cut & glossy healthy hair, beautifully painted fingers and toes, my favourite perfume on (Angel), high heels, well applied make up & being fit & healthy cos when i look good i feel good.
I have always wanted to go to a make up class, i've always wanted to know what the perfect make up colours are to match my skin tone. What an awesome competition! Well done!

Getting ready for a special occasion - such as a wedding. Freshly coiffed hair, a pretty dress, fun heels, a spray of something lovely, a dab of lip gloss, a kiss on the cheek from my husband. But what really makes me feel absolutely gorgeous is when my little boy tells me 'you look really pretty mummy'
If a 5 year old thinks I'm gorgeous then it must be true. Kids don't lie :)

What makes me feel gorgeous is slipping on a long silk dress, letting your locks tumble down to your shoulders, pucker up in those hot red lipstick and having the mist of the perfume across chest. Only to realized you had a gorgeous moment of feeling good about yourself when no one was watching! xo

When my husband takes notice and gives me a compliment. Receiving a lovely compliment goes a long way and makes me feel gorgeous. It's sometimes rare for him to notice, particularly when I had to draw to his attention that I had changed my hair colour from brown to blond last week!! (blinded by the silly season!).

I feel really gorgeous when after putting in that extra bit of effort by way of a face mask the night before, or trying something new with my hair and having someone notice by giving a lovely compliment. It's so nice when people notice!

What makes me feel gorgeous is when I've made an effort, I'm happy with my hair, makeup, nails and outfit and I get compliments from strangers.

My boyfriend makes me feel really gorgeous! The interesting thing is, he loves it most when I am in trackies and Bonds undies with a pony tail! He tells me how gorgeous I am and even if I look like a dag to everyone else, I feel like the most gorgeous woman alive when I am with him!
