This primer is fantastic! It completely smoothes out your skin and minimises pores without being greasy, in fact it mattifies your skin whilst still being hydrating. Foundation goes on smoother and lasts longer. It's also fantastic as an eyeshadow primer, and keeps eyeshadow in place for hours.
The formula is quite thick and needs to be warmed between your fingers before being applied otherwise it wont spread as well. I received a sample which came in a convenient tube, but the product itself comes in a little tub, which seems a little unhygienic. But those little qualms aside, it is the best primer I've tried!

Good Primer but too expensive
The texture of the primer is a thick mousse consistency that is neither runny nor sticky. The texture feels more on the thicker side but does not feel heavy on the skin when applied. The colour is a cross between an off-white and a light pink, however, you will find it to blend easily into the skin appearing white but once absorbed, it will become transparent. I feel it helps to mask and reduce the size of the pores allowing for the smooth foundation to sit on the skin better.
Overall, I don’t mind this primer at all, however, I do feel for its price point is very steep. You can buy drugstore primers for a fraction of the price and still get the same outcome, if not better. I also don’t like the packaging – in a jar. I feel primers should come in a tube, as I find it unhygienic to dip your finger each time. You will enjoy other primers for a fraction of the price that won’t break your purse.
Only apply to areas that you want to minimise the appearance of large pores/fine lines and control shine & oiliness.
Normal to Combination Skin. If you excessively experience Oily Skin, this is probably not suitable for you.

Ok, but felt weird on my skin!
I received a free sample of this primer and as much as I wanted to love it, I just didn't! I found the texture 'weird' on my skin (which is best described as combination - some parts oily, some parts dry). 'Weird' being that it sunk in on the oily parts and smoothed it out, but didn't work all that well for the dry parts and I feel it didn't work well under my makeup for this reason. Such a shame for me, but I would recommend giving it a go anyway..
If you have oily skin all-over, this product would probably work well for you :)

L'Oreal Base Magique Primer
Formula is very similar to Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch. Creates a really smooth base and feels nice and silky. Mattifys for the first few hours but my t-zone manages to start shining again by lunch. It's still less oil than no primer at all, so I would still use it. Still looking for my HG primer but this will do in the meantime!

Great product invention
This magic jar is really great!
One of Loreal best invention...
It smoothes my skin & make up stay longer..
Other brand try to copy it but most are fail IMO.
Make sure you clean your face thoroughly otherwise it won't stick good.

I like this, it applies smoothly making my skin feel soft. A lot of the product goes a long way so it lasts a while. However I did find it slightly flaky sometimes.

I have tried many primers but this one is my favorite. It glides on smoothly and foundation it so much easier to apply. Hides a few of those pesky lines and gives your skin a more smoother and glowing look.
Allow to settle on the skin for 5 mins before applying makeup

Honestly I had higher hopes for this product. My friend had bought it and told me that she only wore this on her no makeup days as it really smoothed her skin and helped to just make it look beautiful.
So I decided to go for it.
The first couple of times I didn't notice much difference. If anything the pale colour did have an effect at making me look a tad washed out. (I am tan with yellow undertones) It's quite thick and as such I end up using a foundation brush to put it on my skin to save me tugging. I don't notice that it makes my foundation last any longer than usual or control oil or anything really. Overall nothing good or inherently bad about it.
Jar packaging is an issue for me as I hate dipping my fingers in and the product gets under my nails because of the narrow top which leads to a wider base.

Best in Beauty 2014
The L'oreal Baser Magique Transforming Smoothing Primer comes in a 15ml clear glass tub with a black screw-top lid. It is simple, yet classy packaging. The primer is a thick cream consistency, with a subtle pink hue. There seems to be a light almost chemical smell, but I only find it noticeable sniffing in the jar, not upon application.
The primer should be used after the normal skincare routine of cleansing, toning, moisturising and the use of eyecream.
This product is simple to apply, a lot easier than repeating the name of the product, wow that's a mouthful, LOL. I find that the best application method of this primer is to "warm" the primer, by rubbing between the fingers first, as this allows the product to smooth easily across the skin. I find only a small amount is needed for a thin, even layer.
I experienced an instant mattifying effect, which is a necessity for my combo skin, especially in these warmer months. I have large pores, and found that the primer helped to smooth them over, without making my skin feel clogged. This is important when applying foundation, as primer enables makeup to go on smoothly, and more evenly, especially, I find, when using mineral makeup in powder form, which is the only foundation that I wear. With the L'oreal Primer, my makeup looked even, without being heavily applied. Especially impressive, for me, was around my enlarged pores, I no longer had unsightly craters. Also, I am pleased to say that the lines around my eyes weren't storage pockets for my foundation, the primer also helped to fill these in, so that the foundation could be brushed over with ease. Another advantage that I experienced, was that this primer increased the longevity of my foundation. It seemed to last all day!
As mentioned earlier, I have combo skin, and did not experience any adverse reactions, such as break-outs, during this trial period. I would also like to add that the primer is gentle enough to use around the eyes, and on the lids.
I did try using the L'Oreal Primer on its own, but there was not enough of a noticeable difference to justify using this primer when not wearing makeup.
Not one to religiously use primer, I am now a convert, and can see the importance of this step. Overall, it enhances the look of foundation, making the face a perfect canvas, plus it means no touch-ups during the day.

bEst in Beauty 2014 - Totally Addicted to it!
This velvety mousse like product is soft and smooth in texture and blends beautifully on the skin. It blurs the marks and spots and evens out the skin tone. Very light and doesn't clog pores. Absorbs immediately into the skin. Makes the foundation glide on smoothly and helps the makeup last all day long. Can be used as an eye primer too. Definitely a repurchase.

Tough to blend and not the best packaging
I cheated on my beloved Benefit's Porefessional with Base Magique and oh, how I regret doing this. As a beauty junkie I am always in search for new "better" products, sometimes I am teased by lovely ads and of course I end up getting the products that seem so alluring. Well, in this case I was not so happy.
In general I would say this primer does a decent job and I have seen reviews comparing it to Porefessional, but in my opinions those products are very different and the difference lies in technicalities. Base Magique when finally applied does make the skin look matte, smooth, and the size of pores is reduced. Which in general is what we want form a decent make up/ foundation primer. And I am sure it will be enough for some. But for me all about make up is the pleasure of applying it and in the case of L'Oreal Base Magique the application is just hell. First there is the packaging, yes, the jar looks sleek and nice but when it is very cold the primer seems to be pretty thick and though and I find it difficult to take it out of the jar. Moreover, I do not like digging in the primer with my nails. It is also not a very hygienic packaging. Second, the primer is much thicker that Porefessional and it makes it difficult to apply evenly on the the face. One has to be very careful to blend it in meticulously and flawlessly. And those are the things that made me give this primer only 3 stars. The not so perfect packaging and the tough consistency of the primer itself. Yes, it works, but Porefessional does the same job more gracefully.
