My go-to foundation

My skin is more dry than oily/combination but having tried the dry version think that this is much better. It's long lasting, easy to build up and provides great coverage. I'm also quite pimple prone but this doesn't irritate my skin or really cause it to break out whatsoever. I love the extensive colour range and usually set it with a light powder. I think the best thing about ColorStay though is that I find it looks better throughout the day as opposed to when I have just applied it.
The only reason it's a four star instead of five is because even though it's my most prominently used foundation I find that I still have to change around every now and then to match my skin type (because sometimes it just doesn't work).

This foundation is absolutely amazing! It has great coverage and really makes your skin glow and look smooth. Ive been using this product for about a month and think its fantastic. It doesn't feel too heavy on the face and it is the perfect colour for my skin.

Great long lasting foundation!

This is definitely a medium coverage foundation but I don’t like thick foundations and I find this one the perfect level. It covers up blemishes and my redness while still being light enough that I can forget I’m wearing it eventually.
While wearing it I found that I didn’t get quite as oily, even on the days that I didn’t set it with a powder. And on those days without powder, it still finishes to a nice natural finish, I just like a more matte finish.
When it comes to lasting power, this foundation has it. I live in Australia, and on a 39C degree day, this foundation proved it’s worth. I was in and out of the car three times, I lifted heavy things, greeted guests, napped on my face, and still, at 5pm in the afternoon (10hrs after putting it on), it looked good. I also put it to the test at work, competing with a headset and my palm resting on my face for most of the day. At the end of the day, you couldn’t see where my hand had rested, but I did find a lot of foundation under my fingernails from where I might have scratched at my face. But when I take it off at night, it takes a good face wash to get rid of it.
This is a thicker formula than some other foundations, so it requires a little bit more actual product for the coverage but it has a really nice pump bottle so you’re not stuck attempting to scoop out the last bits. As for value for money, here in Australia the RRP is $34.95 - I wore it almost every day for a month and I’ve used about a 1/3 of the bottle.
As for colouring, I’m fair with yellow undertones and I picked up Sand Beige. It matched quite well in the store but once I got it home and saw it under natural light, it was a little dark. I probably should have gone with a shade lighter, but with a light powder over the top it doesn’t look it.
Overall, this is a HG product for me, definitely worth the expense and great for Australian summers when you’re looking for coverage. I apply it with a buffer brush and it blends well and stays for ages.

I apply with a buffer brush and it blends really nicely.

Favourite so far, but still searching

I'm on a never ending search for the foundation holy grail, and although I keep coming back to Revlon Colorstay, I still think there's something greater for me out there.

The number one thing that draws me back to Colorstay is the shade "Ivory". It's a pale, cool-toned shade, which is hard to come by in this price range. In fact, it's hard to come by in higher price ranges too, as many brands tend to favour warmer tones. I would prefer something a tiny bit paler, but this shade is good with enough blending.

Secondly, is the wear-time. Other than a perfect colour match, my perfect foundation must last a full work day with only minor touch ups. Many foundations have failed to last on my combo skin, and while Colorstay doesn't do a perfect job, it's fairly good, and certainly doesn't slide off my face like some foundations.

One downside to the long-lasting formula, is that it can be quite drying. I usually combat this by using a setting spray instead of a powder. This takes it from a demi-matte finish, to something a little more glowy. It can get a bit shiny (powder or not) and settle into fine lines and pores throughout the day, so touch ups are necessary to keep looking fresh. The finish is probably what I like least about this foundation, as I would like a more natural look.

Coverage is medium-buildable. I like to wear it fairly sheer over the nicer parts of my skin, and build to a more full coverage over any redness or pigmentation. It's important when building coverage to do so in very thin layers, and let them dry in between applications. This will prevent the foundation from looking cakey. I like to apply Colorstay using a damp Beauty Blender, or the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush.

Overall, I think this is a great foundation. And since you can often find it on sale, it can be great value (note: I have/will never pay full price for this product. Considering it's only $13 in the US, I think $35 is a bit steep). I will keep re-purchasing Revlon Colorstay until I find the holy grail.

This foundation is one of my HG drugstore products!! I've been using it for five years non stop and I've never been disappointed from it. They have a great selection of colours so you will definitely be able to find one to match your skin colour.

It stays on my face really well without a primer which is nice and surprising since my skin can get oily in my T zone.

It might be one of the more expensive drugstore foundations but it's definitely worth the money!

Best foundation ever

My daughter got me into this foundation, and I am incredibly impressed! Full coverage with easy application and not too dry. Never looks cakey, lasts all day and doesn't move into my crows feet during the day. I'll never use another foundation

For a lighter application I like to wet my sponge slightly when applying

Ideal for

Every woman every where.

I always keep coming back.

This foundation has always been my go to for whenever I need a long wearing foundation or for wearing to work. Over the years I've had several shades (for differing levels of fake tan) and I've found nothing else lasts as long on my very oily skin. I usually prime my skin with a mattifying primer, then apply the foundation, then set with powder. Some shades do oxidise and look ashen or dirty but this can be minimised by making sure the shade you have selected isn't too dark, and by using a yellow based powder. Throughout the day I do get shine, but blotting paper and a powder touch up sort that out! Overall I haven't found a foundation that tops it. My only gripe would be the shades. The darker ones are very pink based/ashy.

A silicon based primer underneath will help with blending. Setting with a yellow based powder to reduce pinky and dirty undertones.

Ideal for

Oily skin, long wear, humid environments

Where have you been all my life?

I had looked at this product for so long and was a bit hesitant due to the price tag. I finally made the plunge at a sale and I have fallen in love with this product. The packing of this product is so great, it feels high quality with the glass and even comes with a handy pump and cap. After testing it out I've discovered that it goes on best if you pat it on with a dense brush, otherwise it can be a be a bit streaky. It provides medium to full coverage that doesn't look cakey at all and leaves my skin looking healthy and slightly dewy on my combination oily skin. Even without a setting powder it lasts all day, I even wore it for more than 12 hours once! This product definitely benefits from a smooth surface and a good primer. This is the perfect foundation from my skin and I would hesitate to repurchase this at full price. It is definitely worth the price tag.

stays all day!

I have quite shiney, oily skin and struggled to find a foundation that would last all day but this one does. The coverage is light enough to not feel cakey and gross and always lasts all day for me.

Finally a foundation that I have repurchased

My skin is really oily normally within an hour or 2 of putting a foundation on my skin is so oily & gross but with this I can wear it for hours without it sinking in I do have to powder up abit in that time but I don't have a problem with that... Literally an hour after I put this on I find I look better then when I applied it.., my go to foundation... Looks amazing on the skin...
