Facing the green-eyed monster

I’m suffering from jealousy, of the extreme kind. And the worst part is it’s over my best friend’s 18-year-old sister (surely when you hit your late twenties you’re supposed to have matured past such silliness?)

It’s not so much her gorgeously long legs or youthful figure that gets to me, but rather the fact that she has possibly the most flawless skin I’ve ever seen. You know, the kind of complexion that’s so clear it literally glows – all annoyingly without the aid of bronzers or illuminators. And, although generally a smooth milky white, it has the rare ability to turn into a rich caramel after a minute outdoors (unlike my skin that seems to wage its own war against daylight by turning red and blotchy the minute it’s exposed to the sun).

So yes, it’s not surprising that whenever she’s around, my face and I are left feeling dull, freckly and a little more than green with envy. Yet luckily for me, while genetics may not be on my side in this instance, the cosmetics industry sure is! To smooth my complexion and tone down my freckles I love Rimmel London Lasting Finish Foundation. When my skin is looking particularly lifeless I use Natio Glow Skin Brightening Face Balm for immediate radiance and, for subtle yet effective bronzing I can’t go past MAC Bronzing Powder. All I need now is a time machine to take me back to my teens…

OMG......loving that green eyeshadow. Wish I was younger so I could wear it. I love Natio Glow Face Balm, adding that one to the list. I try to get a flawless face by just using my moisturiser and alot of other stuff to lol.

Great article Deb! I like your writing style and sense of humor.

My biggest beauty envy is women with great noticeable collar bones! I try to enhance my as often as possible when going out by using bronzer and illuminator but it will never be as good as the real thing!

I create a flawless face (when I actually try lol) by:
1. Washing my face twice
2. Moisturising with a matte moisturiser or moisturising primer
3. Applying liquid mineral foundation lightly
4. Applying concealer
5. Applying powder mineral foundation (of the same shade)
6. Applying a dusting of translucent powder to set
7. Applying the rest of my makeup (eyes, lips, cheeks)
7. Checking myself in multiple mirrors around the house and in different lighting conditions, and taking photos of my face!

Yes can't beat a youthful skin - hope your friend's little sister looks after it! In the mean time you can never be too young to have the odd facial, to cleanse ( be gentle around the eye area) and moisturise ...Good luck in your new posting Deb! LOL

My New Year's resolution is to lose weight and my weight goal is to be the same weight I was when I first met my husband (12 years ago). I was looking through old pictures of myself so I can have a visual image of my resolution. What bothered me most was remembering how much I'd complain about my skin, hips, bum, practically everything! when in fact I looked pretty amazing back then and would do anything to be the way I was 12 years ago. I wish I loved myself more at that time and did not take what I was blessed with for granted, maybe I would have enjoyed life more fully. But life is a vicious cycle, here I am complaining of my weight, when 12 years from now I'd probably look at my old pictures and think I was pretty decent. Sigh!

I am totally jealous of people's eyes who sparkle! Have u noticed that? Their eyes shine heaps and it makes them look way hotter/cuter. Dayum I have plain boring dark brown eyes lol..

I think my biggest beauty envy would have to be youth. You just can't beat youth! Thankfully there ARE a lot of things we can do to give the illusion of flawlessness . . I love my Loreal Studio Secrets matifying primer, followed by revlon colourstay mineral mousse foundation, some translucent powder and a shimmery touch of blusher. Gee it's lot of work to be flawless when you're over 40 . . .

I agree with the flawless skin, I think though I'm really concious of the tone of my skin as well. Girls in their twenty's have that gorgous plumpness to it that seems to fade as we age... man, to be able to turn back the clock!! Isn't there a creame for that yet? ha

a great article - and a really insightful often unspoken truth...LOL - at the moment I have hair envy - of everyone is see. I'm pregnant and whilst i am still gett my colour and cuts done, due to the pregnancy hormones the colours just aren't taking the same way or turn out the shade they are supposed to.
I'm a sucker for a good serum to make me feel good. At the moment my product of choice is Avon Anew Vitamin C serum. I use a moisturiser afterwards, and when I wake up my skin looks noticeably fresher. Also lashings of mascara to open up my eyes and a dose of peachy blush to brighten my complexion always perks me up a bit.

My biggest beauty envy would be exactly what you were saying! I suffer mild rosacea so on hot weathers/environments my face goes red!! Arghh annoying! So I usually contrast it with my concealer. Another one is having open pores! I use powder and still that sinks into my pores, I'm searching far and wide for a very effective mattifier/primer as well as a treatment for 'tightening my pores'. And as you have mentioned Natio Brightening Balm I might have a look at that too..

My sister's naturally blonde hair. I have to spend hours getting streaks in my thick hair to get the same effect! So not fair! I create a flawless face my taking care of my skin and wearing mineral makeup. Concealer, illuminator and bronzer also help my skin look fabulous and flawless. : )

I so agree on the skin thing. I watch quite a few online makeup tutorials and all of those girls have such great skin that their foundation just flows on and when applying their blush and shadow it just looks so effortless, put product on the brush, wipe brush once across correct area and it's done. So annoying.

Hmmm biggest beauty envy would probably be flawless skin, and I hate to say it but a "more-endowed-than-me" cleavage. Not something that makeup can really fix lol.
EDM's vikis radiant creation illuminiser/blusher/bronzer powder is great for a pick me up to create glowing cheeks (minus the sweaty look)
