How-to: choose a face powder for dry skin

For anyone with dry skin, applying make-up can be a constant frustration. Almost everything seems to highlight the problem and only make it appear worse. Thankfully though, armed with the right information, it is possible to find make-up that works with, rather than against your problem skin. Here’s how to find the perfect loose powder for dry skin…
Check the label
Not all loose powder products are the same. Loose powders are made from a range of different ingredients and many powders contain substances which can irritate and emphasize dry skin, so when you’re shopping for a powder, it’s important to check the label. Look for a powder containing light-deflecting particles and one that is moisture infused, so it won’t cake around dry skin areas.
Look for hypo-allergenic
A lot of people with dry skin also suffer from slight irritation and sensitivity to make-up, which means that applying a loose powder can make your issue worse. Unless of course you’re using a hypo-allergenic powder. Unlike other loose powders, hypoallergenic powders have been dermatologically tested for sensitive skin and are generally fragrance free, so they’re ideal for dry skin.
Our fave dry skin picks
For dry skin or dry skin with sensitivity, our top picks are L’Oreal Paris Translucide Naturally Luminous Loose Powder, which is enriched with vitamin C and is non-comedogenic, non-acnegenic and dermatologist tested and
Almay Wakeup Make-up Mineral Powder Foundation, which has hydrating properties perfect for dry skin.

Thanks BH, I always steered clear of powder because of my dry skin and how it highlights dry/flakly areas! I had no idea hydrating powders existed.

I never suspected that my powder was contributing to the irritation I have been getting on my face and have been blaming my foundations. Will try out some gentler powders now and see if it helps. Thanks beauty heaven!

I went thorugh a time earlier in the year where my skin was a total nightmare. I stopped using things altogether and worked really hard with my skincare routine to get my skin back on track. Im slowly starting to reintroduce products now so i can work out whats not suited and what is.

Thanks for this! I was always afraid to buy loose powder because I thought it would just make my foundation look cakey. But now I have more courage to go out and buy some! :)

Luminising powders or liquid powders (powder that buffs into a liquid for hydration and then sets to a powder again) are great for dry skin.
