Honey, I’m ‘homering’…

The issue I’m about to relate to you is one shared by many women all over the world – yet I don’t think it’s ever been given a proper name. I’ve heard SUL (Sweaty Upper Lip) before, but I just didn’t think it was the correct description for the problem many of us face.
Okay, picture this. You’re walking along on a beautiful, slightly warm day, thinking you look a million dollars, and then you spy your reflection in a nearby shop mirror. Oh. My. Gosh. Honey, you’re ‘homering’…
What’s ‘homering’ you ask? Well, it’s when the make-up around your mouth either slides off, or fades away due to the warm weather or as a result of eating, and you’re left with a rather obvious, weird-looking Homer Simpson-esque ring around your mouth. It’s not pretty. Especially when your blush or bronzer is cut off abruptly near your mouth, instead of blending perfectly from your jaw to your temples.
The cure? Well my beauties, I’m yet to officially prescribe anything foolproof. But I can suggest a few preventatives that you might like to try.
Finishing powder: This stuff works as the glue that holds it all together. Dust some over your finished complexion for a face that lasts longer. Try: Almay Pure Blends Loose Finishing Powder.
A stay-put foundation: Perhaps securing your face from the base is the way to go. A long-lasting foundation can help to minimise the chance of any ‘homering’ later in the day. Try: Maybelline New York Super Stay 24hr Makeup.

What is your best defence in the fight against ‘homering’?

I tend not too use too much product i.e. BB cream and some mattifying powder and I'm good to go. Definitely blot and powder for fighting homering!

I agree with tendheart, if you keep it to a minimum during the day it wont be so obvious, up here in FNQ we are going to sweat regardless so you just have to be prepared :)

I always use a primer to help the foundation hold and use a finishing powder over the top, seems to work...most of the time atleast :)

I already use Maybelline 24 hour superstay, but I make sure I always powder over it.. That way it withholds the rain and heat at the same time.

Warmer weather in Brisbane, I tend not to wear alot of foundation. It runs down my face like lava lol. Although I have just bought the Maybelline 24hr superstay so will see how it goes.

Can't say that ever happened to me...? Sounds awful though :) When I used to live up north and it was 1000 degrees all year round I didn't even wear makeup.. Now I make sure to always use finishing powder and always look in the mirror after eating/drinking/whatever....

Definitely both a long-lasting foundation AND a finishing powder! Prevents me from having to touch up too often. Powder is an amazing face-saver :)

Oh my goodness! What a hilarious blog and how much can I relate? Ive been trying to minimise foundation lately and taking more care of my skin. (Been a bit lazy and neglectful lately). Been applying make up only to real bad areas as needed eg, red spots, applying a gradual tan to even my complexion and been more regular with my skin routine, eating more healthy and drinking more water. Gotta work on the exercise and getting more sleep yet, but hey, theres progress!!

User a primer prior to applying foundation - it helps make-up to stay put!

Also put some foundation on lip prior to applying lipstick - this also helps with staying power

I don't really get any 'homering' which is great! But I know a few friends who do, so I'll kindly show them this article. :)

If I know that it is going to be a hot day, I do not wear much make-up at all. It is basically moisturiser with tint and sunscreen, and a touch of lipgloss. I do not need to wear make-up all the time.
