Making up

  • Post a comment

Here at beautyheaven, we discuss make-up more than is probably normal, sane or even good for us. Well that’s a slight exaggeration, because I believe talking make-up is most definitely good for us.

Especially when it’s along the lines of asking whether the new foundation you’re wearing is in fact too pale. As I found myself doing yesterday. “Maybe you just need some blush, you do look like you could be coming down with something,” bh-er Sarah replied. Point taken, I was trying to look fresh and dewy, not peaky.

It’s not just my own make-up I’m concerned with but other women’s too. I’ve recently become obsessed with watching the women who powder their noses in the car on the way to work rather than watching the lights.

And I heartily enjoyed the confession from a friend who admits to applying a full face while on the bus to work, oblivious to the looks she knows other passengers are giving her. Yes, all sense of good taste might have gone out the window but she wins points for time management.

Speaking of which, I actually like to take my time making up in the morning. Not that I’m applying much or using tricky techniques, but that 15-minute window is one of my favourite times of day. As well as painting my face and doing my hair, it gives me chance to catch up with my boyfriend.

While he showers, I put on my make up: a little concealer under the eyes, Natio Fluid Makeup where I need it and sometimes a dusting of powder. Then a hint of Revlon Bedroom Eyes™ Powder Liner under my eyes, mascara and a dab of good old Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant on my lips.

Then while he dresses, I straighten my hair (my latest obsession is only getting stronger while the sun is out and Sydney is enjoying low humidity). We talk, we preen and I like it.

What's your morning make-up ritual?

I used to do my makeup in the car if hubby drove me to work. if i got the bus i always had my face and hair done before leaving so i could chill out with a book and pretend i wasn't sitting squished like a sardine in a can.

I don't think doing your make up in the car is a good thing...I like the bright lights of a bathroom to see what I am doing...if anything, my base has to be perfectly blended...could not do it on the bus...I like my privacy to much...and then everyone would find out my make up secrets!

I always do my skincare & foundation at home, then depending on time I will also do blush & mascara. Eyeshadow & lipstick always gets done in the car on the way.

I like to do my make-up near a window with plenty of sunlight so I can see how I actually look like outside the room. I've made enough mistake in the past when I did it without proper lighting, went out thinking I looked great when I looked ghastly.... enough said... :p

So little time, so much I want to do. I massage my stretch mark cream to all the bits that get larger with pregnancy after every shower. So far so good but very time consuming so my makeup depends on how much I can get done before I hear Mummy.

It really depends on how much time I have in the morning - as my boyfriend and I have to drop our puppy off at his parents before work, there never seems to be enough! But I never leave the house without applying a touch of foundation, a quick contour of my cheekbones with bronzer, a little cream highlighter on my cheekbone and my rose petal organic lip balm. The rest has to wait til I get to work! BTW, I received some little goodies in the mail today from BH - THANK YOU SO MUCH! The lipstick is DIVINE, the most beautiful shade I've had in a long time - I ran straight to the ladies room to put it on. I was having a crummy day, and this was just what I needed to "pick me up" xxxxxxx

While my husband is at the gym, I get the whole bathroom to myself (yay!!) and have a good 20 minutes to moisturise, prime, a flash of bronzer, a hint of highlighter, a quick flick of the hair and lashes and done!!!

I alternate between makeup and no makeup, depending on what I am doing and whether I can be bothered, but when I do I always do it at home. The only thing I apply in the car is lipgloss, and I can't imagine putting on makeup on the bus!
I have a friend who does her makeup after she arrives at work, so she gets there on time then disappears to the bathroom for 10 minutes, lol. That kind of defeats the point for me though, cause then everyone has already seen you without your makeup on.
I do feel a lot better if I wear a bit of makeup though, so I guess it is really all about me :)

I could never apply makeup on the bus/train whatever - I get frustrated enough when things aren't blended properly, don't need to be getting josstled and bumped as well! haha... :)

I alllow 15 minutes for cleansing and skincare, then 15-20 minutes for makeup... I like to take my time as I'm a perfectionist... And like you Gemini, I like my privacy and I wouldn't want everyone around me knowing my secrets - I want them thinking I woke up like this! lol :) ahahahaa...

I'd rather read a good gossipy mag on the way to work when I was catching public transport. I'd occassionally touch up my lippy but not apply a full face. If I'm a passenger in my hubby's car I might apply some more makeup especially if he is rushing me out the door! But I also like my privacy too! My products make my application quick and simple so my morning routine is jump in the shower, wash my face (generally in the shower), tone, moisturise and then put on my makeup.

I find it absolutely fascinating watching women apply their makeup on the train on the way to work! I don't know how they do it - I watched a woman one day do her whole face - foundation, blush, eyeliner, mascara, eyeshadow, lipstick, the lot! And she managed to do it without smudges or anything! Now that's skill!

Me on the other hand? I always make sure I have time before I leave the house - I don't like going out without makeup on as I feel yuck - at bare minimum I need some foundation and mascara!

oh I understand about the shower/make-up time management, when im in the shower he shaves, when he's in the shower i get my time infront of the mirror to do my make-up. works out perfectly, and gives you great time to chat for 15min.

I used to do it on the tram on the way to uni (just lipbalm and gloss!), but since I started working I tend to go makeup-free... mainly because the mirror in the bathroom is just too small for my boy and I...and we're both as vain as each other! Plus, I could do it at work if need desk draw is just bursting with makeup!

Alicia I put my make up on in the bathroom.I apply a lipstick and tinted moisturizer or mascara and eyeliner and a lip gloss.I too used to put my make up on the bus mind you and I never did it again as I would get make up everywhere.

I have to agree with the general concensus, I couldn't put my makeup on in public, especially not my whole face! I think refreshing my blush is about as far as I'd go!
My morning ritual consits of dragging myself out of bed, brushing pre-straightened hair, blasting with the dryer for volume, make-up on quickly, mug of coffee and out the door!

I stumble into my bathroom, put on my primer and while it sinks into my skin i go back to my room and get dressed. I find it saves time and means i have a perfect base for when i apply my makeup!

The revlon looks devine. Since applying make-up I now get up earlier to allow time to put it on but I must say I am getting quicker at it. My first time it took me an hour and twenty five minutes which hubby nicely pointed out. I also then clean all brushes then soak them while gone then when I get home let them naturally dry. I put my creams on, followed by priming in the rosacea areas, eye concealer, then foundation using a brush and then sponge to spread it out evenly then comes the eyes, cheeks and finish the job off with the lip gloss. If I don't go out I don't wear any make-up but do my cleansing regime morning and night.

I love nothing more than washing my face in the morning! I have just opened my Joey NY Pure Pores system and I am totally loving it! I love to cleans, tone, moisturise, under eye cream and perhaps a pimple treatment! Then on with my foundation, mascara and blush or bronzer!!

I don't have a huge ritual for day to day makeup.
i usually just wash and moisturize. i bit of tinted powder, some mascara and a little brown blush on the cheek bones.

Moisturise, concealer, compact foundation, mascara, eyeliner and gloss. Only go for extra when I'm dressing up to go out.

I wash, foundation, mascara, and lip gloss :]
All I really use day-to-day, if I'm going out out, sometimes I'll put on a bit more.

I enjoy spending time doing my morning make-up, but I don't always have that luxury! I usually do most of it before running out the door, but I end up doing my lips and sometimes mascara in the car at the traffic lights.

i regularly get up over an hour before i need to leave so i have enough time to go through my routine-and so that if i decide to try something new i have enough time to start over. fortunately my hair is poker straight and so is very easy to manage, so most of my time is spent on my face-i usually know what i'll be wearing the night before. Moisturise, prime, foundation, concealer, powder. Then i do my eyes-usually just a base colour and a highlight with some eyeliner for work, then eyelash curler and mascara. I'm more of a lipgloss maven than a lipstick one, and so i apply this just before i walk into work so that the colour is fresh
