Mum’s the word: crazy cleansing

Coloncleanse-beautyheaven

We all cleanse our face – and I don’t mean the disciplined cleanse-tone-moisturise routine, I just mean that we all wash our face (hopefully at least once a day, preferably twice!). But right now I’m not talking about facial cleansing, I’m referring to colon cleansing...

A few years back I recall a friend Facebooking me to tell me that her mums group had clubbed together for her birthday to buy her a voucher for - wait for it - a colon cleanse. I remember thinking, ‘if I were you I’d change my circle of friends – quick sharp’. Surprisingly though, she was excited about the prospect of a cleansed colon. I know that being a mum she didn’t get out much, but this was taking things too far.

She went on to explain that it was all the rage and celebrities couldn’t get enough of it. I still wasn’t convinced and no, this isn’t one of those stories where I go on to say that eventually I tried this crazy fad and found enlightenment – as well as a clean colon. No, I’m simply sharing my views that colon cleansing is not necessary (it can actually cause more harm than good) and yes, there are many things in life that are unnecessary but we choose to do them all the same – like tinting your eyelashes – but this is not one of them, and I recommend you leave well alone.

However, I am an advocate of tinted lashes and I’m currently sporting 1000 Hour Eyelash & Brow Dye in Blue/Black. A great little time-saving technique for mums on the go – no more time spent mastering your mascara application technique.

What foolish fad have you fallen for?

I've never try a colonic and don't think it's appealing at all. I think there are other ways of cleansing the body with good diet and healthy living. I know people that have had a colonic and raved about it. The most foolish thing I've probably done is try a few fad diets in the past. Have found that a temporary fix can have consequences and it's all about making lifestyle changes to feel healthy and stay in shape :)

I have a photo of me way back in the 80s when I was a very young girl wearing leg warmers. I do regret following that fad especially when there's photographic evidence.

Ha,ha that's funny aliciaraul because I was going to say the same thing!!! I loved my LW and would often be sporting them with a skirt and leggings!!! I'm not really into all this colon cleansing, as I have heard some real horror stories about them puncturing it etc... I like to cleanse my body the way god intended, naturally!!! :)

I don't usually fall for these things but in the past (when I was pregnant and everything felt like HELL) I was considering the eyelash/brow tint, since I was still expected to look presentable at work.. didn't do it though, the all day sickness got the better of me

I lit up a cigarette a couple of times when I was younger. It was all the rage, but I just couldn't inhale. (Reeeeaaaallllyyy ... I couldn't. I tell the truth.) So I had to give up.

I've never tried dying my lashes, or brows - but it suddenly seems very interesting to me and I think I'd like to give it a go! Especially with the more swimming weather coming up around the corner! I like the idea that it wouldn't wash off in the surf : )

Forgot to add my own foolish fad! I think it has to have been crimping my hair back in the eighties without any thought to using a hair protecting product. Not even sure if they existed back then!

I'll pass on the colon cleanse, lol. I think back in the eighties I fell for every fad that came out from the horrid poodle perm to the fluro choose life shirts and gogo gear, these days I steer clear of them all. that era was frightening enough, LOL.

Me to passing on the colon cleansing. The only fad I did was the Magic Silver White in the hair....(horrors to think of it now), The worst fad was copying the ad for smoking Virginia Slims (slim ciggy like a cigar). obviously I was in high school lol.

I haven't really fallen for a dodgy fad yet (or so I think!) although I did have a spiked fringe as a young girl and teased, gel fringe for a while to when I was back in primary school and trying out the latest looks, lol. Thankfully that was many years ago. Hee hee softness, i loved the crimper too, was great until I tried crimping my barbie's and melted her hair!

I had long hair which was very short and spiked on top, all the girls at school would just hack the top part of their hair to from spikes. I did the leg warmers, the polka dot mini skirts teamed with princess diana inspired ruffle collared shirts. I used magic silver rose to try and throw a pink tinge through by brown hair( and i wondered why it didnt look as convincing on me as my blonde friends) . And i remember using my Breville curling wand on my hair until it fried and looked like crimped curls lol . I would do it all again. But I say no to the colon cleanse, I would rather be full of sh#t.lol.

Absolutely unnecessary if your diet has enough fiber your colon takes care of itself.

I have never tried it and I don't really find an appeal with it. I try not to follow fads.

I don't like tinting lashes at all and it looks so fake.

I am very skeptical by nature so don't follow fads. If it doesn't have proven scientific research behind it (not just empirical) I'm not interested.

I would never go for a colon cleansing but I would consider false lashes.
