Biggest make-up mistakes

Oops... you did it again.
Ever left your house looking more like an oopma loompa than a beautiful bronzed babe? Or gone a tad overboard with your tweezers? Or perhaps you were too heavy-handed with your foundation? Go on, admit it beauties, we’re all friends here!
Whatever your past beauty boo-boo, we’re here to ensure you prevent the problem in the future – or at the very least learn how to handle it if you’re ever caught out as the victim of these make-up mistakes again!
The problem: too much bronzer
The solution: So you’ve gone a tad overboard with your face and/or body bronzer? It happens. Sometimes we just get a bit brush-happy and keep on sweepin’. The way to solve this problem is to start again. Covering the bronzer with more powder is only going to make you looked caked-on. Trust me, just rinse your face and start again – you may think it’s a waste of foundation (or time), but we guarantee it will teach you a lesson and your fresh and dewy complexion will be compensation enough.
The prevention: The number one reason over-bronzing can occur is the wrong lighting. When you’re applying your make-up in lighting that’s too light or too dark you can fail to see any bronzer being applied at all, so naturally you get more vigorous. Not good! Begin by standing in natural light and starting with a just a sweep or two first – you can then build up the intensity if you need more colour. Remember, it’s way easier to add more than it is to take away.
The problem: over-tweezing
The solution: If you suddenly feel the need to ‘clean up’ your brows, only to realise a few moments later that you look more cartoon than cute - you’ve over-plucked. Take a deep breath, don’t freak out – grab some brow powder and ‘fill out’ your brows a little more. We love Ardell Brow Defining Powder for this as the powder works to make what’s left of the hair look ‘thickened’ and it doesn’t leave a severe edge as can be the case with other brow pencils.
The prevention: If your brow shape isn’t clearly defined, it’s a good idea to get a professional to shape them for you first. That way if you feel overcome by the need to tweeze, you can simply follow the shape already created for you, plucking the stray hairs without worrying about ruining the shape too much.
The problem: the foundation ‘mask’
The solution: Ever stepped out into the sunlight only to realise that you’re wearing a bit of a foundation ‘mask’? Either the wrong colour foundation or bad blending skills are to blame. For a quick fix, simply wet the tips of your fingers and lightly rub the edge of the ‘mask’, then add a little more foundation to those fingers and work it into your jaw line. Take the colour down your neck to ensure there is no unsightly division left!
The prevention: Firstly, it’s imperative to choose a foundation that’s your perfect skin tone match. Most people need one for the summer months and a different one for the winter months. If you’re not sure which shade you should be wearing, just visit a beauty counter in your nearest department store and get them to fit you with the correct shade. Most beauty counters will offer this service for free and may even give you a foundation sample too! Also, always, always make sure you remember to take your foundation down to your neck and blend, blend, blend!
What is your biggest make-up mistake story ever?

Getting a foundation that was a shade darker than my skin and it turned orange on my skin throughout the day. When i got home i screamed it threw it away. This was back when i was a teen starting out with makeup, and i swore to never let that happen again!

In my early teens, I didnt have any money so I owned one foundation stick and a black eyeshadow. Black eyeshadow was applied as eyeliner and foundation stick was smeared heavily over my face (no wonder I had bad breakouts). Panda eyes and too thick foundation and no concealer - I hope there's no photographic evidence left...

Not blending foundation properly! And using concealer a shade lighter--I thought that brightened my skin, but it just gave me the reverse panda eyes look.

My major problem is finding the right shade of foundation, I don't have the money, nor do I want to spend big in department stores to get the right shade from the more expensive companies and the supermarket brands just seem to ignore that there are heaps of pale people out there.

I think that I just get heavy handed with application. Then, it is too late to change anything because I need to be somewhere.

I shop at a Priceline store and most of the time the ladies will try a bit of foundation on your face to see which one best suits you, and their prices are pretty good, you can join the priceline club earns points every time you shop there, and get vouchers ect .Some chemists will also try foundations on you.

The first is I forgot to wash conditioner out of my hair. I left the rinse out hair mask in my hair by forgetting about it. It was not until someone asked me what the white stuff was in my hair that I remembered, by this stage I was out shopping.
The other mistake was not making sure my instant wrinkle serum had worked properly. I did not bother doing a final mirror check before going out, went to restrooms in the plaza and I had white flaky serum particles under my eyes.
Not the best look.

My biggest makeup mistake might be wearing too much blush caused by poor lighting in my room! It's not until I'm outside and look in the mirror do I see my extremely pink cheeks!

Hmmm, probably using a (supposedly) waterproof/smudgeproof eye liner, only to find it half-way down to my cheeks several hours later. I looked like a ghoul!

My biggest makeup mistake is probably getting too bronzer happy and applying it to the wrong part of my face.

mood lipstick! Goes on green, and changes to a kind of luminous and very unflattering electric pink. Ugh.

When I was a teenager I used to get a little eyeliner-happy. Not in a flattering way - more like "where have her eyes gone?". I once tried SunIn (?) Lightening Spray on parts of my ginger hair when I was about 13 years old. My mum wanted to kill me, but the straw-like hair was punishment enough!

My often committed mistake is not checking my make up in daylight. I am a little heavy handed when it comes to foundation and have shocked myself on several ocassions when I have taken a mirror outside and checked.
Now it is part of my routine to check all in daylight.....!

Probably my worst mistake has been doing makeup in the wrong lighting. I spent a year inadvertantly wearing bad makeup because of poor lighting in my bathroom. :(

Probably like most women, choosing the wrong shade of foundation, too dark, not a good look.

foundation can be tricky as you never really know what you are getting, even when the sales assistant chose my concealer for me and "matched" me there, everything looks different when you step outside the bright lights of the shop
