Jemma and Jodie Kidd
You need muddy bronzer. No kidding.

Cross a supermodel gene pool with a backstage pedigree and a kabuki brush and you get make-up artist, maker and instructor Jemma Kidd. And some delightful breakfast company indeed.
Bh just enjoyed a suitably refined cup of tea and canapé with Jemma and her catwalk-stalking sis, Jodie, to preview the new English Rose Collection by Jemma Kidd Make Up School, and came away with a lesson or two…
Inspired by the blooms of her own Victorian garden, Jemma's latest line of colours (which hits Kit Cosmetics in April) makes you think of springtime tea parties in the countryside. The fine Eye Essential Shadows feel like powdered petals, the Lip & Eye Dewy Gloss gleams deliciously and the Ultimate Lip Care – Protect and Plump makes lips look rosy perfect.
But it was Jemma's new Bronze Perfection bronzer and Stardust Creme Shadow in Aurora that really caught my attention.
First, the green cream shadow. Until Jemma juxtaposed her fresh, light leaf-green with pink lips and a subtle cheek, I'd never noticed how much green helps more delicate colours come alive. Jemma says she took her cue from the natural colours of garden plants: "If Mother Nature can do it, why shouldn't I?"
The idea behind Bronze Perfection, however, was borne of serious brush time. "I just couldn't find what I was looking for on the market. I wanted a dirty, matte and muddy bronzer, not a shimmery one," she said. Dirty?! Muddy?! Gasp!
But this is no ordinary bronzer. "It's not a bronzer for across your nose or apples," Jemma explained to me. "It's for contouring and warming the outer areas of your face and your cheekbones. Think of it as a wash of colour. And the flat matte finish makes it look so real."
Just one warning, she says: "Don't apply it to an oily skin and make sure your skin feels matte before applying it."
Well, blimey. Green shadow and dirty bronzer a la Jemma Kidd Make Up School. Who says you can't teach an old beauty editor new tricks?

PS: I'll be imparting more gems of Jemma Kidd's wisdom throughout the week, so keep tuning in!

I never use a bronzer, as on my pale face it just makes it look dirty. Maybe its in the application?
Maybe I just need a professional makeup artist everyday...
Instead of dreaming, I'll go and make another cup of tea..

I've always been on the lookout for a bronzer which has no shimmer and has a matt finish. When I apply bronzer on my face it looks like I've over dosed my skin and doesn't look right. I even apply the bronzer as suggested and that is where the sun would naturally hit your face but I still struggle to get the look right. I really like the sounds of Jemma's Bronze Perfection

Gemini69 I agree with you, I think I'd just want to wash my face after I apply it. But maybe I've just n ot found the correct product? This may be worth a try.

I actually have a muddy matte bronzer that I didn't like. Perhaps because I was using it on my cheeks. Will try using it as described.

most of the bronzers i have tried have that shimmery, glittery look which is fine if you are going out to a party or a club but for everyday use looks weird. i would love to try the muddy bronzer just to see if it works for me.

Looking forward to April and investigating it for myself! It is annoying that most bronzers are so shimmery - it's pretty and who doesn't love a little sparkle, but it's not completely natural. A matte formula does sound great for those I'm-not-wearing-make-up make-up occasions. Like the sound of the eyeshadows too. Pretty...

gemini69, I too have the same problem - bronzers just look ridiculous on me! So I wear my natural base shade foundation (Prescriptives Flawless Skin, Vellum for summer, Cream for the cooler months), then I buy a dark shade like Bisque or Beige and I blend and contour (like where the sun would hit my face) to match up my face with my fake tanned body skin...

Glitter Gal, I too sure do love green eyeshadow and pink lips! And any combo of the two seems to work! Deeper green, lighter green, pale pink, frosty pink, metallic pink, right thru to cyclamen! And green eyeshadow is one of the few shades that actually suits me! I think I will go green for my look tomorrow! Watch out world! lol :)

I don't think so tina_cats, as long as its not done like a drag queen, and blend, blend, for that softer look, that makes green eyes stand out, not the other way around...

Matte bronzers are great for contouring the face, apply under the jawline to hide a double chin.

tina_cats, i have green eyes too and i wear green eyecolours. get the right shade and your eyes will mezmerize people. i have had people convinced i am wearing green contacts when i wear these colours. try soft green on the lid with a fine jet black eyeliner and fine black masscara.

Yes I a have green eyes too!!!!! My eyes are a light lime green and heaps of people comment on them and often ask if I'm wearing green contact lenses. (No green lenses here, just clear contacts). I do wear a gorgeous green eyeliner makeup by Styli (from memory I think that is what the brand is - something like that - I can go and check if you really want). This green liner looks much better on me than black liner and quite subtle but also complimentary of my green eyes. I have got a Revlon eyeshadow quad too but I don't use that as much as just the green liner. I am a bit of a classic style person so I certainly wouldn't wear green if it looked 'lairy'. So I am sure you could too.

Oh! I use a bronzer quite often but lightly under my cheekbones and temples and even more lightly then all over. This is a nice natural look and never looks 'muddy'. I like it because it makes me look really healthy!

oh! Her bronzer sounds just like what I've been looking for, but all the ones I've found are shimmery so I can't use them for contouring! Thank you!!

I don't generally use a bronzer. Foundation is basically what I use to even my skin tone. Will have to try a bronzer to see the results I think. ###Sandra
