This summer: remember to slip, slop and slap… your nails.

When the sun starts to shine it’s important to be on top of your protection. You have to think about protecting your skin from premature ageing, ghastly sunspots and unattractive red raw beach burning – oh, and then there’s hair! Those of you worth your weight in Casting Crème Gloss will know how important it is to defend your hue from colour fade when the summer months start to roll around.
But if you thought that was the extent of your sun protection procedures, think again, as there’s one more element you’ll want to keep defended – your nails! So heed my warning if partial to a pretty polish or two…
Lacquer fans beware! Right now I bet you think that pretty pink polish is perfectly harmless, don’t you? Well, you may have done a top-notch application job, but the fact is, that polish may be just be the cause of that yellowish tinge on your nail beds.
Fact: UV rays are incredibly good at fading your bright nail hue, or worse still – yellowing it so that a pretty unmovable stain is left for all to see. This means we need to step up our sun protection game, in order to keep our manis (and our naked nails) looking marvellous. Our fast fix? A touch of ORLY Sunscreen for Nails. It specialises in the protection of pastel and light shades, such as French manicures and the like, but is great to use over other nail hues too.
So, as you reach for your SPF 30+ and your UV-protecting hair spritz this beach season, remember that there’s no bigger beauty sin than yellow nails – and you don’t want a one-way ticket to bad-beauty town now do you?

What other sun protection measures do you take in summer?

I once used a sportsgirl bright green tester nailpolish in the store. then I tookit of about 5 hours later and there was a REALLLY OBVIOUS yellow stain! eww! I'd comparethumbs and one would be normal and the other ghastly yellow! now that its grown out i have the top half of my finger nail slightly stained compared to the other half! not pretty :(

Other sun protection protection? I wear a little cap when on the beach - it's one of the caps that have no covering over the top of my hair (because I like my hair to get sun-kissed) but it shades my face really well.

Gee that is really interesting to know.
I tend to watch my feet when out in the sun as years ago they got burnt very badly and I couldn't walk for days so now when out and about I will always smother them with sun screen now.

I always make sure to put sunscreen on the backs of my hands but I had no idea it was necessary to put sunscreen on my finger nails!

I always protect myself in the sun since I had a little squamous cell carcinoma removed from the left arm. A simple little sore that didn't heal. Slip, slop, slap only became a catchphrase in my teenage years and I honestly didn't heed the warnings much. So now I always make an effort to protect myself when going outdoors.

I always wear a hat in summer for extra protection if I'm out doors for extended periods of time.
But I'm not sure about the whole nail sunscreen though. Really, cos I though that was the point of a base coat, to prevent staining?
