French connection

In case you haven’t yet realised, I’m a bit obsessed with painting my nails (I try not to go on about it too much but there’s only so long a girl can keep something in!). I love everything about the ritual of doing my nails – from choosing my new colour, and removing the old (try Manicare Extra Gentle Polish Remover or Orly Artificial Nail Remover for falsies), to painstakingly applying the new polish and forcing myself to relax while I wait for it to dry. I guess it’s as close to meditation as my pretty impatient personality is ever going to get!
While I do have my personal shade preferences – bright pinks, corals and purpley-blacks – I like to think I’m pretty open-minded when it comes to trying out new hues and admiring the nail art of others. There is however, one exception: the French pedi. For some reason, whenever I see those white-tipped toenails (which is much more often than you think considering my cousin constantly sports them) it really gets my back up.
And the most annoying part is I have absolutely no logical reason for my aversion. It’s not as though I dislike the whole concept – I love a good French mani and think there’s nothing that looks more fresh and feminine (try Fabulous French Manicure Set for a great DIY option). So what is it about them that makes me want to grab the closest bottle of polish remover, get down on my hands and knees and start scrubbing?
Maybe a trip to France would solve the mystery – I’d put up with a French pedi if it went hand in hand with a month’s holiday in Paris!

What’s your take on the French pedi? Are there beauty looks that get your goat for no apparent reason?

French pedi does seem a bit much, but a French mani is gorgeous - it's basically just taking what naturally happens in the nail and exaggerating.

I know what you mean about loving doing a manicure or pedicure on yourself! I love it too - for me, I think it's about getting fully focussed in a creative way (I am 'painting') on myself for a few minutes and pulling myself away from the busy life of a mum and wife etc. During those few minutes my kids know they aren't allowed to 'bump' mum because she's 'doing her nails'!! It's perfect bump-free time!
I adore the french pedicure and manicure too - they look so 'healthy' and together without looking like I've tried too hard (even though I did!).

Oh a month in Paris would be just the ticket, Deb !
I love the french pedi, it sometimes nice to break it up time to time then just having solid colors.

I don't really have an opinion on the french pedicure - but I do love the picture with the article - so cute!

Beautiful picture! Reminds me that my feet need attention too! I love French manicure but love really bright colours for my toe nails.
Is it a beauty blunder to not match the finger nail and toe nail colours? lol

haha I have no problems with the French pedi Deb! i envy the girls who have the patience to do it properly actually!
The beauty look that gets my goat is girls who get their hair coloured stark constrasting two-tones! You know - bright bleach blonde on outer layers and dark red brown underneath. Looks DISGUSTING and is an old trend (talking 5 or more years here) yet women are still doing it and they are looking like BOGANS!

Yeh vibrant colours on my toenails always makes me feel bright and summery (even if outside it's the total opposite!) DG i NEVER wear matching polish - but that's just coz i think it's a waste of colour-try potential to sport the same colour on toes and fingers!

Bright colours for tootsies all the way for me as well. Lol, PPP, I hate that look myself. Bogans, I had never thought of calling them that, now the next lady I see with that, I'll be thinking Bogan with a giggle. :)

Ooo, this French Connection article and pic remind me of French Polynesia! Tahiti and Noumea, here I come! Well, wish to come anyway. ; )
I've never thought about a French pedi before, let alone sported one. I've tried to do a French mani and the results were not very promising. I think I need to leave that one for the professionals! I like to paint my toes bright solid colours in similar shades to you, Deb. However, deep red is still my all time fave toenail colour.

Had my toe nails jewelled for a special summer party. French pedi looks very ordinary to me.

personaly haven't had a french pedi as i like natural or colour but I don't mind the look of it. I think nail art/colour is a reflection of each persons own personality or individuality so to each their own! Not really any beauty looks that get my goat, do find badly matched foundation (pancake face) or botched fake tans funny though (and yes i admit to having commited these sins myself over the years, lol!)

Love the pic! I prefer bright colors for toenails, otherwise I feel like my fingernails are on my toes ifi had a french pedi lol.

I prefer bold bright colours for toenails, but french pedis when done well can look lovely on people with petite feet (which mine are not)

I'm hardly into nails but I do my nails (hands) when I go out with friends or on special occasions. My nails seem to get a bit dirty, it's a bit like a magnetic force on my nails! lol but definitely would go French mani but maybe not a pedi.

Haha I agree Deb, not a fan of the french pedi. I think the reason I don't like it is because toe nails aren't meant to be that long to do it! Surely! Love experimenting with colours though and both hands and feet.

I think the french pedi looks a bit much, but I love the french mani. It seems to give the hands a clean, fresh appearance.

I think a french pedi looks clean, but not if its made with falsies stuck on top.
