Tress tips you’ll want to bookmark

It’s a well-known fact that everyone’s hair is different. Which means it takes a different means of maintenance for everyone to have it looking the way that they like it.
Only you know your hair’s true behaviour - so when your girlfriend says she’s so jealous of your lovely silky hair, she’s actually got no idea about the four-hour hardship you went through to get it looking so glossy and gorgeous. So next time you go to style your mane, keep some tips in mind that may help you in your attempts to create a new style.
If you have frizzy hair…
- Don’t flip your head upside-down while blow-drying; it causes all sorts of mayhem. Even though it’s recommended for hair looks that require extra volume, you know that you can achieve that without bringing on a total frizz fit.
- Don’t blow-dry your hair until it’s bone dry. Blast it until it’s about 60 per cent complete, and allow time to let the rest air-dry. Your frizz will be reduced my around half.
If your hair is already voluminous…
Use a curling iron on your blow-dried hair to create bouncy waves that aren’t too bouffant. To do this, clamp the irons on the ends of your hair, and roll upwards towards your scalp. Hold for a few seconds before releasing. This will help you achieve a more textured look.
If you have fine hair…
- Use a root lift spray before you attempt any kind of style (unless you’re after a slicked-back ‘do), spritzing it at the roots and applying heat to activate the product. We love: Goldwell InnerEffect Repower Root Lift Spray.
Before blow-drying your hair, sweep it up into a topknot and dry it in that style. This will force your hair to set in a different direction, and give you instant root lift once you release the bun.

What’s your best hair top tip?

When I wear my hair up in a pony tail I always get flyaways, so what I do is use a blush brush and spray the hairspray on that then brush the flyaways down. It doesnt leave your hair looking like you have used a can of hairspray.

Rightyo I've taken note of the Goldwell Innereffect Root Lift Spray! My fine hair could really do with that I think - plus a haircut. I'm just not sure how I want it done exactly. I'll be flipping through some mags I think. Thanks for the tips Bh - I really need some in this department.

No matter what, scarves always look gorgeous with a bad hair day or not! And there are so many ways to wear them.

Great idea Jenniqua, i usually spray it on a tissue and use that to pat down fly aways but I have a cheap blush brush i will try that! i am lazy with my hair, i have very thick, sometimes frizzy hair and i find that only washing it once a week, helps a lot, i do rinse and condition it every other day but i try not to wash too often!

Don't constantly move the hairdryer around back and forth as that causes frizzy hair. Streamline it down the hair shaft and move it slowly through each section.

I usually use a root lift spray :)
The best tip I can think of is ALWAYS use a heat protectant before heat styling. Anything that minimises damage is worth using to me.

I have fine hair and a lot of volume, so the root lift tip wouldn't work for me (unless I want to go for extra extra body, haha).
I don't really have hair tips as I am always unsure what on earth to do with my tresses. They are soft though, and one thing I'd recommend, especially if you are cash strapped is using your normal conditioner as a leave in conditioner. Leave in conditioners can be a waste of money, especially trying to find the good from the bad and what will suit your hair. So use your normal conditioner, and double the time it is left in your hair or more. It's always worked for me.

My hair only looks good when I wash it and then put Tousle me Softly mousse in it. Leaving it out is the only way to go I think. Nothing else looks good unfortunately, I just don't know how to work with my hair... Also my face shape and ears that stick out really prevent me from going crazy and try lots of different styles :(

Great tips here. Thanks Liv. I saw an ad the other day from schwartzfopf for a new shampoo. It uplifts at the roots to make your hair look volumous. Cant remeber the name but its in a clear greenish bottle. Looked interesting and something Id like to try out.
A good hair tip is try to avoid brushing your hair while its wet to avoid breakage. Well said too Jayekaye I try to stay away from heat appliances, but there are so many products that help combat that problem now thank goodness Great tips beauties!

I always apply a small amount of Morrocan Oil to the ends of my hair after a shower. It leaves my usually 'boofy' hair soft and manageable. A++

I like to let my hair dry naturally as often as possible, and ponytails or topknots are the solution to bad hair days :) Dry shampoo can be your hairs best friend when you want a little volume and a quick oily be-gone help.

Use a conditioning treatment that suits your needs at least once a fortnight so your hair gets and extra boost. It always leaves my hair feeling really soft and smooth afterwards

eggs, eating eggs is great but if you want an instant result using egg instead of conditioner makes your hair soft, and also your last rinse if you rinse with cold water seals up the hair cuticle and makes your hair shiny
