Take me to the dark side

Most people worry about dark roots, I on the other hand have the opposite problem.
Yep, that’s right beauties, no matter how hard I will my mop to maintain its gorgeous hazelnut hue, my blonde beginnings just keep coming through (as do the ‘blonde moments’ – just can’t seem to kick those either!)
Now as much as I love Vincent Nobile (my fabulous colourist at Sydney’s Headcase Hair), I don’t really want to spend every second weekend in the salon with him.
Luckily, he was happy to give me (and all you ladies out there struggling to maintain coloured locks) a few tips to extend the time between trips to the salon:
Invest in a shampoo and conditioner specifically designed for dyed hair.
Products with colour-enhancing properties will help to lock in your colour and prevent it from fading, giving the lifespan of your new hue maximum longevity.
(I’ve been alternating my regular colour-lock S&C with Wella System Professional Biotouch Color Reflect Shampoo in Brown – it deposits a bit of colour to my strands and works a treat in disguising my blonde roots for an extra few washes.)
Avoid products containing the nasty, heavier silicones.
These will leave a strong film over your hair, preventing colour from penetrating the hair properly, and therefore making it more likely to fade faster. (Check out my blog for more info on which silicones to avoid).
Maximise blonde shine.
If your hair is shiny, the colour automatically looks more vibrant – unfortunately though, this is much harder to achieve on blonde locks. Wella System Professional Luminous range contains pearl extracts and is formulated to enhance shine and treat blonde hair, so consistent use will make your colour look better for longer.

How often do you go to your hairdresser?

Glad to hear its not just us blondies that have trouble with regrowth Deb. The wella system colour shampoo sounds like its worth a try. I have tried pantene for blonde hair before but didnt make any difference and Im not really fond of Pantene anyway becsause Ive been told it contains a lot of silicone. Thanks for the tips and Im going to check our your blog now about silicone based shampoos.

I don't use dyes in my hair so that probably helps me cut down hairdresser visits. I only go once every 6-12 months for a trim. It's the appointment thing - I just prefer to do other things!

My sister is my hairdresser but having said that, I don't see her as often as I should, LOL!

I know it's every six weeks = one trim but I can't be bothered going. II mean $50+ for a cut that isn't even good? Each cut just makes my style worse and worse... seriously, I never realised it was *THAT* hard to cut Asian hair. Geez.

I also have a sister who is a hairdresser, I saw her last night for several inches cut off my ends and a NEW fringe. :) Very exciting. I definitely dont see her as often as I should but have been much better than usual with my treatments so I think I can get away with it..?

I go every 5 weeks for a trim and tidy up of the style - I'm lucky, she does exactly what I want. For what it's worth Deb, nothing is worse than WHITE roots. If I don't recolour the regrowth every 2-3 weeks, I look like I'm going bald. I completely understand why some older women stop colouring their hair...but I'm not ready to give in yet!

I used to go every 2 months when I was getting foils. I dyed my hair back to it's natural colour of dark brown late last year so I haven't been since to get it colour and have on the seldom occassion went in for a trim otherwise trimmed it myself at home. I've been using semi-permanent colours to refresh the colour at home but haven't really had a problem with colour fade. I'm currently using an Alchemy shampoo and conditioner on my hair and find this range retains my hair colour and gives it added shine.

Every three or four months. Naughty I know, but it is not cheap! I snip off split ends regularly though with nail scissors.

I go abouot every two to three months, I think you are meant to go every six weeks but I try just to look after my hair with treatments at home to stretch out each visit. I Dye my har at home to save also, but luckily natural hair colour is close to dyed colour (Natural medium brown dye chocolate brown) so can get away with roots for a bit longer.

Oooh I love the sound of the Wella range! My hair is naturally brown but I have been blonde for as long as I can reember (showing my age now) so it gets a little dull. Especially in winter. Will def have to give it a try!

Lol, Sitting here singing the Wella Woman song, hehehe, I really don't get to the salon for trims and colours as much as I should, naughty me, its the price of it all that gets me, about $200 a pop, so I have to save first to be able to do it.

I go to the hairdresser maybe twice a year, finances are tight so I trim my fringe myself and also dye my own hair, funny thing is that my hair is healthier now than when I was attending a salon every 6-8 weeks, I guess this is because i used to get my roots done and then foils, now I just do my roots and i usually wait around 2-3 months between applications. I will say though that I really do miss that awesome salon experience and the feeling of being pampered, as well as more stylish hair, but hopefully better days ahead.

I go to my hairdresser about once every 4-6 months, so about 2-3 times a year. I don't have the need to go so often and plus I'm lazy and can't be bothered booking an appointment.

I was going every 3 months last year, but I haven't been at all this year, I'm really trying to grow it (and so taking VERY good care of it, treatments galore, using semi's, rarely straightening)... too scared to go before my wedding in case it gets screwed up! Love these tips though, thanks Deb :-)

Long hair, tight budget, so I only go to the hairdresser about 2x year and try to save it for around important events eg Christmas. I like the S&C ideas here, the Wella System Professional Luminous sounds great.

About every 2-3 months. I just got my hair done, yesterday! It looks beautiful with my new blonde streaks. Happy, happy, joy, joy! : )
P.S. I'll look out for the Wella Luminous range. I'd love to have shiny hair for my sister's wedding. : )

I get my fringe cut as soon as it annoys me and the rest at about 6-8 weeks to keep the pob length neat and sharp. When I had long hair I had the ends trimmed once a year. Oops!

My graduated bob needs cutting atleast every eight weeks but I usually have trouble getting to the hairdresser any earlier and my fringe every four weeks or so. Six weeks at the most is best as my hair grows really fast but my hairdresser is an hour away so it's not that convenient. Actually got my hair cut on Tuesday and it makes such a difference to my shorter hair, everything is neat and tidy again.
