How-to: winter-proof your tresses

I know it seems unfair – we’ve hardly even had a summer, but in the same way that fashion stores are doing away with little beach dresses to make way for heavier jackets and blazers, we’re beginning to think about the hair products we’re going to need come the cooler months. And although many hair products are suitable for both the hotter months and the cooler seasons, a change in temperature does beg for a change in your hair and beauty regime…

So, with that in mind, and thanks to a reminder in the forums from Sarah628, I’m going to guide you through a little tress trade-off I’ve conjured up, so you can be more prepared for what autumn has in store….

Trade your treatment spritz for a heavy-duty hair treatment…

Trade your light-as-a-feather treatment spritz for a hydrating hair masque that will work to correct any damage caused by the sun and leave hair ready to face a slightly cooler change.

Swap this… Matrix Biolage fortetherapie Fortifying Leave-In Treatment Spray
For this… Pureology Essential Repair Restorative Hair Masque

Trade your UV protective shampoo for a colour protective shampoo…

With the hot summer sun behind us, it’s time to concentrate on reviving our hair colour. Brighten up your hair colour by using a sulphate-free hair cleanser that smoothes the hair, helping to prevent colour fade and dryness and restoring hair health.

Swap this… Kerastase Soleil Apres-Soleil UV Defense Active Bain
For this… TIGI BED HEAD Colour Combat Colour Goddess Shampoo

Trade your hair de-frizzer for a heat protection spray…

Now that the pesky humidity level is lowering, you can worry less about sporting super frizzy locks and more about protecting your hair from heat damage. [Let’s face it, you’re bound to be busted heat styling instead of air drying as it gets cooler.]

Swap this… Morrocanoil Frizz Control
For this… ghd Heat Protect Spray

I definitely always pull out the heavier masks and protectants, my hair gets so dry in winter!

I will be swapping my Vaseline Conditioning Lotion for their Cocoa Butter Lotion instead which is more thick and nourishing. Will also include some heavy duty hair masks (I'm thinking of trying the Keratinology by Sunsilk Advanced Reconstruction Program Hair Spa Mask).

I definately go for the heavier leave-in treatments in winter, but I always use my de-frizzing products, cause winter is when my frizziness is at its worst.

The scizzors! I prefer slightly shorter hair during winter because it doesn't get in the way of all bulky extra clothing that I need to keep warm! It's easier to have longer hair in summer and I like it to keep the sun off me a bit too!

I usually don't do anything different, maybe this year I'll use a bit more moisturiser on my face but that's about it!

I don't really change much about my beauty routine from season to season but I do change perfumes from light florals to muskier scents.

Interesting blog. Not sure what I will change at the moment as I am really happy with the results of the products I use.

It really depends day to day, how my hair and body are reacting to the climate and season change. So, some days I need oils and others I go without.

The only product I use aside from shampoo and conditioner is argan oil...all year round! Love the stuff :)

It really does depend on the weather and how my body reacts to it. I might use heavier moisturisers/masks if I need it, but otherwise I tend to use the same sort of prodz through the year.

I need lip conditioner or balm, hair masks and conditioning treatments and a thicker moisturiser for daytime to prevent dry skin in the colder months. I also like to invest in a good hydrating barrier cream for my hands as the cold weather drys them out also.

A heavier hand cream and body butter are my winter goodies.

Definitely a richer and warmer shade of red for my tresses, and Dove Body Silk - can't live without the feel of it on my dry winter skin, and the heavenly fragrance gives my dreary dull days a boost :-)
