Expert Reviews: Spring beauty bag!

It’s officially spring! That means it’s goodbye to long pants and knee-high boots (and ingrown hairs – argh), and hello to good old-fashioned shorts and natural tans. But if the thought of stretched-out days and sunshine isn’t enough to put a smile on your face, these beauty goodies just might.

Today, we’re reviewing an impressive, gym-friendly mascara; a haircare range for seriously damaged strands; a pretty, plum-coloured gel polish, and an at-home dead skin peeler for your feet that’s sure to induce a few shudders…

I’m new to tubing mascara, but I’m so excited to have discovered it! Admittedly, I don’t go anywhere without a bit of mascara – not even the gym – so I’ve found this mascara to be a lifesaver for those sweaty moments where I’d usually have black smears pooling under my eyes. The blinc Mascara formula stays put without smudging, and it hasn’t flaked off, either, which is brilliant. It was really easy to remove – I just needed warm water and a gentle tug at my lashes to remove the tubes (though I did have some interesting shower experiences where I forgot about the mascara, wiped my face and got a little alarmed at the gunk in my hands!). I recommend this mascara for a day look where you don’t need your my lashes to make a statement, as I found I had best results when I used a maximum of two coats.

I have always been a huge fan of the Kérastase hair care range, and have been using it on and off on my fine, damaged hair for over 15 years. My hair is overprocessed, over-coloured  and fragile, so when I heard about the new Kérastase Résistance Thérapiste range, I was very keen to try it out. I did find it strange to use the Kérastase Résistance Thérapiste – Soin Premier Thérapiste conditioner before the  Kérastase Résistance Thérapiste – Bain Thérapiste shampoo, but once I felt how soft the products left my locks, I didn’t think twice about the new process! I found the conditioner absorbed well into my hair, nourishing and strengthening it. It isn’t slippery like a normal conditioner, but I was still able to get the knots out with a little extra care. The shampoo is incredible. It is more like a cleaning balm; it feels moisturising yet light. I know the products are costly, however, not much product is needed and the results are worth the extra dollars. When I recently visited my hairdresser, she commented on how healthy and strong my hair felt and how much easier it was to style. I’m a convert!

I love a gel manicure, but I’m hopeless when it comes to removing the polish properly. I’m way too impatient to make an appointment at the salon, so I end up picking it all off and trashing my nails in the process. So, I’ve made gel-like nail polishes my new go-to, and I was super excited to try the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel polish. One of the things I love most about Sally Hansen polishes is that they have a flat brush, so keeping a steady hand and applying long, smooth strokes is child’s play. I sealed this gorgeous eggplant hue called ‘Boho a-Go-Go’ – a new shade in the range – with the reformulated Miracle Gel Top Coat, and it gave my polish a shiny finish (a la a gel mani) and made it last. I wore this polish for about a week, and only had one minuscule chip. It looks like gel, it feels like gel and it lasts like gel, but there’s no commitment and I can remove it with a few swipes of regular nail polish remover on a cotton pad. That’s a major win for me, and any other impatient ladies out there!

I’m guilty of neglecting my feet (oops), so it was a no-brainer to trial this product. Inside the bright Milky Foot Active box, there are two plastic socks containing a creamy pink mixture. I slipped both on and felt a cool, tingly sensation. Once I had secured them in place with my cotton socks, all I had to do was sit back and relax while keeping my feet flat on the ground. Once the hour was up, I rinsed them in plain water and that was it! After about six days, the fun really began as the outer layer of my skin began to crack and peel – my feet looked like they had aged about 10 years! The dead skin gradually peeled off over the course of two weeks to reveal new, pink, baby-soft skin. My top tips would be to use this product during winter so that you can hide your feet with stockings or some cute boots. Also, be sure to wear socks to bed so that you don’t wake up in a sea of dry, flaky skin. I’d recommend Milky Active to anyone with dry, cracked feet that are in need of a serious makeover.

Do any of these beauty products take your fancy? What do you love about spring?
