The bonus of bleaching

Being a basic brunette for most of my life (besides one whiter-than-blonde mishap when I was sixteen – eeek!), I’ve never had to worry about toning products, violet shampoos and the like. Whenever my brassy-toned besties nattered on about their tresses (for the eleventh time that day), just zoned out.
So when I took the plunge and became a balayaged blonde, I couldn’t help but wish I’d paid closer attention in those mop meetings. Sure enough, after a month or two, my ashy blonde became more like a blorange, and I knew swift action was needed.
I pulled out the Fudge Clean Blonde Violet Toning Shampoo that had just crossed my desk, and headed straight for the showers.
I know this may sound silly, but I never realised that these shampoos were quite so violet. My whole bath became a wonderful shade of purple and I had some fun lathering up my strands, all the while secretly hoping the hue was actually doing something to neutralise the brassiness.
After rinsing the tub, a quick towel dry confirmed my hair was back to a brilliant blonde, with no coppery tones in sight. Yippee! Want to know the best part? You only need to use this sparingly, perhaps once a month or whenever your colour starts to look less than luscious, which means it will last you through many a blonde hair trend or two.

What is your biggest hair love right now?

Even though I'd never do it myself, I actually don't mind Kristen Stewart's new look, I think it suits her a lot better than the black mullet! That toning shampoo sounds amazing liv, I love purple anything, kinda makes me wish I was blonde lol

I don't think I would ever bleach my hair simply because it would turn orange.
I remember using a shampoo specifically for black hair in Malaysia and it was a dark navy colour almost black! freaked me out!

Ooo, I'll have to look into this sort of shampoo, Liv. I've just had my blonde streaks redone and I'm loving my hair atm!

The purple shampoos are great. I used to have blonde highlights and the DeLorenzo one worked a treat for me. :-)

John Frieda Volumising Mousse, I can't leave the house without it since i chopped my hair. It has fantastic staying power, even on the second day my hair has oomph

No way would I bleach. With my colouring I'd look ridiculous!
My is hair long and straight so I'm trying different ways of making it wavy. Think I may need to use some sort of heated device as so far it's not the look I want.

I am still hooked on the Moroccanoil faze, I love how shiny and soft my hair is with a bit of oil on board. Who would have thought that oil could go down such a treat in my hair that is already oily, lol.

Oh I actually LOVE the pastel purple hair in the pic but with my dark hair I couldn't pull it off. I'm also loving the Hairvenly extensions from Deb's latest demo and still loving my Goldwell shampoo and conditioner which smells so yummy.

I like the John Frieda conditioner - the 'intense' one I think it's called (sorry, just too lazy right now to run upstairs and back down!!). It's got a really beautiful effect on my fine, overlong hair.
I like the sounds of the Moroccanoil that mel is hooked on too! I would love to try that to see if it suits my hair!

Love the picture, but would never bleach my hair.. I'm naturally dark blonde (or very light brown) and once I dyed it to the blackest black.. it was nice but too much work to keep it nice and vibrant.. Then I shaved half of my head, long story...Bleaching is just too damaging to the hair so even if it's nice I probably wouldn't do it..

I'm not a blond, but I didn't know that violet tone shampoos neutralised brassy tones. Would it work for brassy browns as well then?

Same, I always had dark brown hair till 2 years ago. I started bleaching my hair at home since I couldn't be bothered to spend heaps at a salon. Bleaching your hair to really blonde almost silver, isn't hard as it sounds. You just need to know how to do it! True, bleaching is harsh to the hair but as long as you're using the right treatments and masks, it shouldn't be a problem. My hair looks great! Trust the amazing hair products out there! They do work!
I actually love Matrix Solutionist So Silver Shampoo but when it runs out, I really want to try De Lorenzo Nova Fusion Silver since it's got glitters in it! I just think its pretty. Nothing's wrong with trying it out right!?

I'm way to scared to go anything lighter because I have dark brown/black asian hair and I've seen waaaay too much of that copper colour it goes when people attempt to lighten it. I'm happy with my colour and just stick to putting rinses and such through it that can be seen in the light and just give a nice sheen and subtle colour

Very brave of you to change your hair colour Liv. A before and after pic would be nice as suggested by Maddeh.

I have bleached my hair for 28 years off and on. I just dont see myself as anything other than blonde. I am loving Loreal Total Repair 5 shampoo and conditioner, my hair is very damaged, it is old and it needs lots of tlc, this really works to make my hair look alive again.

I have really dark brown hair naturally, and decided I wanted to go blonde. The hairdresser had to bleach sections because it took a couple of goes to get the colour to blonde. At one point there were 5 different colours put in my hair in an attempt to make the multi colours look intentional. It was insane, but somehow I managed to pull it off. I finally got my hair down to the desired blonde after about 6 months. Then, naturally, my hair decided it didn't like the bleach anymore an started breaking off and falling out, no matter how much treatment and care it was given. I don't think I will ever try fully blonde ever again, although I still can't resist blonde foils.

I had my hair bleached a few weeks ago, to go from dark brown to light brown! My hair has been pretty good. I use hair treatments to keep it from drying!

I have blonde hair - assisted of course by my lovely hair dresser! However it's always hard for me to keep my brassiness at bay! I love PPS blue shampoo which helps a bit.
