Hair colour

Hi beauties,

I am about to dye my hair for the first time, I’ve decided to do it at home (in order to save cost and whatnot) and was wondering which brand I should go for and which I definitely should not! I’m going from red to chocolate brown. Cheap but quality suggestions would be ace!

Thanks xx

If you are looking for budget hair colouring try the local TAFE or any Hairdressing college. I get my regrowth done for $30

Coconut Jayne, I use a permanent hair colour and after trying several brands only buy Garnier Nutrisse. It is probably just me but on me the others tend to look brassey. Provided you use a shampoo and conditioner especially blended for coloured hair you should find whichever brand you decide on the colour should last a lot longer before fading.

I too would recommend the L’oreal Casting Gloss as a really good first dye option. The quality is really good, it’s easy to use & because it washes out eventually, if you don’t like the result much it’s not like you have to grow it out or re-dye another colour

I don’t use it currently as I’ve found a great salon that does my cut & permanent colour for a very decent price, so I visit them every 8 weeks or so. But I’ve used the L’oreal Casting 2 or 3 times in the past

Coconut Jayne: since this is your first time, maybe you should use a temporary colour such as Casting Creme. It lasts 28 washes, which is long enough to decide if you want to use a permanent colour. There are other brands who make semi-permanent hair colours too. If you use permanent dye & dislike the results, you’ll have to use a stripper to remove the colour. I used to use Casting Creme, it makes your hair so shiny, but now I use permanent colour.
