Topic: Anything but beauty / I AM OVER SEEING ALL THIS SPAM!

I hate seeing ones that ‘pretend’ they’re giving some helpful advice & all they’re doing is flogging off their own website. One recently even challenged why they were spotted as a spammer, I replied back exactly why they fit the mould – never heard from them after that!

Topic: Help! I’ve got a beauty dilemma / Foundation will not stay on

What do you set your foundation with once applied? Have you tried Rimmel’s Stay Matte powder? When I go to the effort of wearing a full face of makeup, I use Benefit’s Pore Professional primer, followed by MAC pro longwear foundation and Rimmel’s Stay Matte powder. I find mine lasts doing this.

I have read a lot of good reviews on here about Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation and it’s longevity. That may be worth a try.

Also another suggest would be to just try a primer without moisturising underneath.

I’ve tried several different powders, including the Stay Matte. I haven’t tried the Benefit primer…do you find it works better than other primers?

I’ve tried the Estee Lauder Double Wear a few years ago and it did nothing for me, but my skin has probably changed since then so I should probably dig it back out of my cupboard and give it another shot. Thanks! :)

I like the Benefit Pore Professional as it hides any large pores I have around my nose/cheek area. I do think it holds my makeup in place really well but it is expensive to buy over here. I usually wait until I am ready to do a big Benefit order and then buy from the US. I would try other options first.

Topic: Make-up / Japanese Beauty?

Make sure you check out their regular drugstore brands like Revlon, Maybelline and Rimmel London! When I visited a few years ago they had a huge amount of products we don’t get here, that I assume were US releases (or Japanese releases maybe?) so it was great to try! Have a great trip!

I have the same concern too. But as a remedy, I use lip balm and lipstic to fight over dryness.

Feeling grumpy! Why? Cos I don’t feel well, I don’t want to be in Darwin anymore, and I don’t really otherwise know why.

Hope they dry season is a little more bearable and the end of your time there is in sight.
Take care Rose, we’re always here to listen.

Thank you Pink Hornet. I’m just really not enjoying my time here anymore. It’s hot. Like really hot. The heat has never bothered me before, but the last few weeks I’ve really felt it. It seems like the wet is over. We didn’t have much of a wet season this year. It was more like the build up just never ended. Even the long time locals are struggling.
Hubby has spoken to his boss (who is not the local branch manager, thank goodness, cos he is a twat!) and at this stage we are possibly going to Sydney for an indefinite period. If it all works out, we will probably put the caravan in storage and rent. Hubby has expressed an interest to Mr Boss to advance his career and climb the tree. Fingers crossed that it all works out.
That’s great news Rose! I do hope it all pans out for you, hubby and the furbabies xo

Paula’s ‘beautypedia’ is annoying me!!

WHY on earth would she give something a 4* rating and then proceed to rip it to shreds and say it’s a terrible product. I read her reviews out of interest BUT I take them with a grain of salt as I think she is biased, as she’s also promoting her own products but I just don’t understand why give something a high star rating, then decribe it as something that has a worse review that a 1 star product. She even says ‘what a disaster’… In fact most of Origins products have this kind of review from her.

http://www.paulaschoice.com/beautypedia-skin-care-reviews/by-brand/origins/_/Drink-Up-Intensive-Overnight-Mask-to-Quench-Skins-Thirst

I don’t really like her site either MsSparkles. I don’t even bother to visit it anymore.
I’ve got some Origins Drink Up Intensive overnight mask, and I really like it.

I need to get out of the habit of visiting it.
Glad you like it! I’ve heard some great things about it and now that it’s coming into winter it’s probably going to come in handy!
I do too I always look at it over and over again.
A lot of the products she rates highly I have hated.
I do and have learnt a lot of things about ingredients. and now avoid such things like lavender oil and alcohol for my skin.
That said although promoting her own products, they are very Good the ones I’ve used. And also she does rate other brands highly.
She does cut through a lot of crap and has made me relious I only need ahas antioxidants and sunscreen. These days I
Yea Paula’s Choice can be annoying. When I was living in the US there was a Eucerin lotion with AHA’s that really helped me with my dry, scaly, and flakey skin on my body and I went on her site to read about it in the hopes to find duplicate lotions here in AU and she rated that lotion 1 star. It was unbelievable because the lotion worked fine for me for 4-5 years when nothing else helped. I’m only off of it since I moved down under.

With that being said, I do read through her stuff and now know that fragrance in skincare is bad, and to look for specific active ingredients that actually have been scientifically proven to work.

Lol its funny you say that. she rates clinique highly but every time I use the. I have reactions and no luck, so I definitely don’t agree 100% with her.
However, i like that ive learnt about pH of products from her.
And her products are 100% fragrance free, recyclable and stable packing and she doesn’t test on animals. I’ll give her that. The products I’ve used from her are impressive.
That said I agree she aint the queen of skincare.
Hi ray_jay,

I’ve always wanted to try some of her products but have been worried that they might not live up to my expectations. Which products did you use and would recommend? :)

I’ve been using the weekly aha foam in place of a scrub. The daily aha as a toner.
The brightening serum which is really great kinda like a primer and it really does make a huge difference on pigmentation.
The retinol wrinkle reducing serum which I use to introduce a bit of retinol its like 0.5% I think but also contains heaps of antioxidants and no acholol I am in my 30s but I found that I can’t complain much about her products. They really work for me. There are no irritants and I found it really affordable.
I’ve just started using the antioxidant serum in the morning too.
I haven’t tried any of the moisturisers or others yet but I may do in the future. I can’t fault the products for me.
The thing is that they do have s lot of silicone so be careful if you don’t like silicone.
Thanks for that ray_jay. I might give her stuff a try as I’m looking for multi purpose products that actually work. I’m looking for AHA peel and a Vit C + ferulic + hylaronic + niacinmindes + peptides + ceramide product and its hard to find everything in one or two products. I’ve seen hers have a variety of ingredients so I might give it a go.
Try serumtologie vitamin c. It contains 22% vitamin c, 1%vitamin e, 5% hyualocic acid and 1% feraric.
You can only get it from USA but its got practically everything you want for cheap as.
Can get it off amazon

I thought I might feel better if I spent my time perusing BH and became very annoyed by the article entitled “The Proper Way to Behave In a Hair Salon”. I found this patronising to BH readers/members. There have been many article on BH over the years providing tips on how to get the most from a session with a new hairdresser and/or maintaining a good relationship with one’s hairdresser but stating how to behave and that good manners are important is unnecessary. Also, why limit it to hairdressers – surely good manners apply to many situations? Please have someone senior edit these articles before publishing them.

Agreed Roxy. Either the standard of BH articles is slipping or I’m becoming harder to please. If I see one more article about Kim Kar-effing-dashian I think I’ll scream!

Please Beautyheaven, no more Kardashians! Sick of hearing about them. Who cares about what they eat!
Speaking of eat…..I want a donut.
Agreeded with all of the above. Stick with beauty and how tos BH please

I don’t usually do this but thought I would drop in as I am feeling really low. It started yesterday afternoon and I became very despondent and teary. I was hoping I would be better today but still the same. Hate these sort of days and haven’t got out of my nightdress. Feelings of hopelessness and not feeling that I have a purpose in life – these are the thoughts running through my head. There are all sorts of things I could do but can’t be bothered. Getting teary writing this so better stop.

Sending you hugs Roxy xxx

Topic: Help! I’ve got a beauty dilemma / Foundation will not stay on

Hey girls!

I’m hoping one of you can help me. I have a problem with foundation, where none of them want to stay on my nose. Some last as little as a few minutes, others may last 2 hours or so, but they all come off.

I’ve tried a lot of different types, and different primers as well, but so far no luck.

Most recently I’ve tried Hourglass Veil, Hourglass Immaculate (both of those with the Hourglass Mineral Primer), MAC Pro Longwear (with Prep & Prime Radiance), BareMinerals Original (with Dr Brandt Pores No More and a layer of Bare Skin liquid foundation under it), Smashbox Studio Skin (with Make Up Forever HD Primer), Bobbi Brown Longwear Finish (with Make Up Forever HD Primer), Nars Luminous Pressed Powder (with Dr Brandt Pores No More), Napolean Perdis China Doll (with Make Up Forever HD Primer) and Urban Decay Naked Skin (with Make Up Forever HD Primer), plus a bunch of cheaper brands like Rimmel, Maybelline, Revlon etc.

I’m at my wit’s end. The most successful so far seems to have been the BareMinerals combo but I think it was actually that the coverage was so sheer it wasn’t obvious that the foundation was coming off.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Almost all of these are fine everywhere else on my face, it’s just my nose where nothing will stay. :(

I think bouncing a beauty blender over the nose as well as setting it straight away might help the situation! x

The price of basic vitamin c serums I just want a basic serum and there so expensive. Its annoying. Why??

Hi! Instead of using Vitamin C “serum” you should use Vitamin C powder. Its so easy to use, you just mix it in with your regular moisturiser. Also, its much cheaper – I got mine from Skinstitut and it only cost $20!!! I’ve been using it for a few months now and my skin is so smooth :D :D :D
