eBay for frames?

I need new glasses, like I needed them yesterday. I have seen some gorgeous Tiffany ones on the OPSM website but they’re very expensive.

A friend suggested eBay, has anyone bought frames off there and then had their lenses fitted?

Will have to check it out Linda, thank you! Was actually considering going back to clearly contacts for contacts.

I have bought one pair off ebay… They were cheap but not quite as described 😛
I have bought several pairs from clearlycontacts.com.au and thanks to their virtual try on app have been perfect every time! They have good deals time to time also!

Thanks ladies. Due to already blowing my claim benefit on contacts this year I know I won’t be able to claim anything back on them. I’m thinking I just bite the bullet and get them from OPSM. It’s been 4 years since I last bought a pair so I figure on a cost per wear basis it’s probably worth it. It’s just frustrating I have such bloody expensive taste and the damn things suit me, which is a rare occurrence in itself.

Make sure you check with the seller that you can actually refit lenses to the frames if you’re intending to get frames online. There are some glasses (like the ready-made readers you get at chemists) that optometrists and optical dispensers won’t be able to refit new lenses to.

I wear prescription glasses/sun glasses and I wouldn’t buy them online mainly due to not being able to try them on beforehand. I found some nice pairs in Specsavers just recently that weren’t too costly.

Are you intending to claim for your glasses thru health insurance? If so, you won’t be able to be paid a benefit for the frames if you purchase them from ebay.

I’ve known quite a few people who have purchased frames from ebay or overseas. Some are great, others are rubbish. I think its a case of buyer beware! Also be aware that ebay Tiffany frames are most like not genuine.
