Mosquito Summer Season

It is a terrible now due to the hot muggy weather and now I am being attacked by mossies when I sleep . Some nights I have to slap them because I can hear it buzzing near my ears .

So girls, what wonderful creams or methods do you use for sensitive skin to sooth welts that is now on my arms and legs ? I am lucky it hasn’t attacked my facial areas yet. !

When my first daughter was born , the childhood nurse said just run the welted area under cold water as creams can cause infections to babies/kids and that did work . Now that I am an adult , even though it is soothing , it does nothing to reduce the swelling . I just thought does anyone use Calamine lotion . The problem I hate how it has the pink colour and it looks like you have painted your skin as it does not turn transparent .
Thanks for any advice 🙂

I use a mosquito coil outside on my deck near the door and found they hate it and none get in – don’t know if that would help?

Ahhhh that is so good to hear others do the cross on the bite with their fingernail. I remember hearing about it years ago and gave it a go and it does work.

I am so scared of mozzies as I suffered Ross River Virus a few years back and that is horrible. I have since bought one of those things you plug in and it emits something that the mozzies don’t like. Touch wood, it is working for me and no bites for the last month.

Another interesting thing is if you are bitten and don’t have any ointment, you can use toothpaste. Yes, it does work also.

Aloe vera is actually a really good repellent as well as a soothing ingredient for bites. I slather on aloe vera gel all over before bed on hot muggy nights. I’ve never been bitten once on nights when I have done this and this is even after discovering a mozzie hiding in my room all night. They really hate aloe vera!

Just randomly, have you seen the Victoria secret perfume articles lately? Apparently the perfume is really good as a mosquito repellent (really really good) I’m not sure which one it was but if you like the scent maybe try wearing that and seeing if it helps with prevention?

Oh I feel your pain. Those mozzies savage me as well.

Stingoes makes a really good anti-itch ointment that stops the itch completely, but it does leave a weird white crusty film on your skin, so looks kind of weird. But wow it works. Not an ideal situation, but blissful relief when the itch is truly driving you mad.
Otherwise I find that witchhazel does a pretty good job as well. Put a bit on a cotton ball and dab it on the bite.

I find that keeping the mozzies from nibbling me when I sleep is better than figuring out how to get rid of the itch once the little jerks have already feasted. I have a big beautiful queen sized mosquito net above my bed. Looks pretty (has fairy lights in it too!) and keeps those little blood sucking bastards out. Bought it from Ikea (in their garden department actually) for about $20. 🙂

I get terribly bitten by mozzies too and whilst I was in Hong Kong purchased a cream from the pharmacy called Antihisan cream, it contains a topical antihistamine and it helps.
I’ve also purchased a mozzies clicker, it’s a funny device that zaps the bite area with static electricity and it gives me instant relief. I bought this also overseas, but I found this at CW, it looks similar. It works for me.

Make a paste of Bicarb powder and water and dab to the bite, it helps significantly
