How do you know if a beauty product is fake ?

Hi, I like to hear from people if they had purchased anything online and found out the product(s) purchased are fake and perhaps you even had a bad allergic reaction to it.
There are so many beauty sites selling exclusive high end products claiming they are genuine and fresh such as Amazon , Ebay etc they, yet unless you touch and look at the product you will not know if it is a fake or imitation or even a toxic beauty item . Unless a store has a sale , it can be very expensive buying it at a beauty counter all the time and not all items are stocked at Priceline .

So does anyone have experiences of being ripped off over the net and what sites do you not recommend buying from if you know of any . Thank you 🙂

I haven’t experienced any fake products but I’ve experienced expired products from StrawberryNet a while back.
I purchased the CK Apple perfume and it smelled like alcohol (which is what happens when perfume are kept for a long time).

I was a little sad so now I only purchase beauty products in Australia.

Thanks so much for your replies. I certainly did not think Strawberrynet would do such thing , it sounds so good too …

Now days with the exchange rate and the drop in prices, brands like NARS and Urban Decay are reasonable to purchase from Mecca so I won’t risk it to say $10-20 dollars.

I have purchased a fake MAC eyeshadow from Strawberry Net years ago. Spektra is a good make up forum which details how to spot a MAC fake. The only was I found out was when I depotted the shadow and the label underneath the pan was incorrect.

    Hi Harmony Queen,

Strawberry net and grey market resellers such as Ebay. I bought MAC makeup brushes off eBay and they were definitely fake, they were terrible. Generally, official distributors of products will say so online too, so keep an eye out.

If it is too good to be true, it usually is 🙂

I would stick to in store or buying from the brand directly. Good luck!

The fakes found by Trading Standards, UK, were sellers on eBay & Amazon I believe.

When buying online I tend to buy via the manufacturer’s website. Touch wood, not been ripped off so far.
