grrr why is Australia so expensive for beauty products and so slow to get them?

Really getting sick of how much we have to pay here in AU for our beauty products? I travel a lot although lately not as much as I did due to the arrival of my twins, lol. I was going to great shops like Sephora, Inglot, Flormar, MAC Pro in Europe and Asia and they always have huge stores with great product ranges and super cheap prices. When they do stock a product here they only stock a fraction of the range!

I got spoiled I know, but now I am getting sick of having to try to find my fav products here in AU. Take for example TOUCH IN SOL Flawless Skin Top Coat, I love it, sort of like a BB/CC cream and the result is wonderful. I was buying it o/s for approx $25. Was excited when I heard Priceline was going to stock it, but they said they are going to stock it for regular price of $49.99, wth? twice the price pffft

Same with Inglot, was buying that in Turkey when I lived there and it was so so cheap! Now these products are “new” to Australia but been around for many years o/s. Off to Asia again in a couple of weeks, will make sure I take an almost empty makeup bag and fill it while I”m there – they have shops like Priceline and same brands we have here, but at least half the price.

Still can find no better nail polish than the Flormar ones, and they cost the equivalent of .75c AU and come in the most unbelievable amount of colours – never chips! Ok vent/growl over, I’ll get off my box now.

CherryBlossom, I had no idea of Jurlique’s return policy until I recently emailed them with a problem I was having with one of their moisturisers. I bought the moisturiser a while ago and I couldn’t find my receipt, so it didn’t feel right asking for a replacement. Anyway, by that stage I had used up more than thirty per cent of the jar.

The company gave me help in making my moisturiser work better and they sent me a few samples of other moisturisers, so I cannot complain about lack of customer service from them.

What annoys me more than the higher cost of beauty products in Australia is that we can’t return products like in the US (unless the product is faulty). I keep reading American reviews where people don’t like a product then say that they are going to return it. I have lost count of all of the #$^@ products that I have given away or put in the bin because of poor performance.

The only place that I know of that accepts returns even if a product is not faulty is TVSN as long as it is within thirty days after purchase date. This is one of the reasons that I shop with them.

I haven’t been impressed with Sephora Australia’s website so far – everything I’ve looked at has a high markup after converting the US prices into AUD. On the other hand, I’ve been surprised to find Mecca’s prices quite reasonable. I ordered a few things from the Xmas Collection (Smashbox, Stila and Too Faced), and after converting the US prices into AUD, the prices work out the same. I was considering using a parcel forwarder to get them during Sephora’s VIB sale this weekend, but the postage would have cancelled out the VIB discount, so I just ordered from Mecca.

Now if Sephora AU would just get their a#$% in gear and release all the Xmas collections!

Yea hopefully the currency will get back to normal and ill be able to order my stuff online through US again! Used to take that for granted! I’ve bought some stuff from sephora australia’s new website and the prices for the high end brands like marc jacobs are actually really close to the US prices! worth looking into it!

I feel you pain! I’m originally from Europe and the hardest thing is about immigrating to Australia is trying to find the same products without the price tag! I luckily have both sets of grand parents who come to visit me once a year at different times, so I get most of my products from the UK, but I would be lost without them doing that, and it also sucks if I run out and have to substitute for something else because I can’t get my normal products here!!!!

I don’t know the reason but I hear your frustration! It’s not just beauty though, Australia is officially the most expensive country to live in across the board. 🙁
