Celebrity endorsements: have you bought in?

Hey beauties,

I wanted to start a forum topic off the back of an article we found on celebrity endorsements. A new study has revealed that only 5% of shoppers respond to celebrity endorsement – and we want to know, have you ever bought a product because of the celebrity spokemodel or do you prefer the recommendations of your friends and family?

It’s okay – be honest! I know I’ve bought myself a lipstick because Emma Stone has been rocking it so fiercely!

I do get interested in a beauty product when a celebrity that I like endorses it. But I don’t buy it right away – I still test it if it looks/feels good on me and, of course, see if the price is reasonable.

You mentioned Emma Stone, Olivia. She’s also one actress I like. I was looking for a new lipstick some time ago and checked out Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter, because I saw her Revlon ad. I liked one of the colors on me, and I bought it!

And also, if I don’t care about the celebrity, I also don’t care about the product he/she endorses.

I bought the Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Peach Parfait, because that was the colour Emma was wearing and I liked it on her! Good thing it suits me too! 😉

I’m influenced, definitely. If a perfume is put out by a celebrity I’ll go out of my way to AVOID it. I would die of shame if I found a perfume I liked, only to discover it was a Paris Hilton or Nicky Minaj release. I refuse to even sample them! (In case I like it!)

A guy I dated a few times said: who pulls their finger to see what they _really_ smell like?

I’m exactly the same especially with perfumes!
I cringe just seeing Justin Bieber perfumes! Just imagine the look of your friends’ faces when you say you’re wearing Justin Bieber! hahaha
Although some are not that bad, I actually have a Beckham perfume that was given to me as a gift. I just stay away from products that are endorsed by celebrities that I don’t like.

I do like Kate Moss lipsticks by Rimmel though, not because it’s endorsed by Kate Moss but because it’s one of the few lippies that doesn’t give me a cracked or dry lips.

I actually bought my first ‘celebrity’ perfume recently. I purposely wouldn’t buy celebrity perfumes because realistically, they’re just putting their name to something someone else comes up with. However, I bought this particular perfume after seeing a youtube blogger I follow review it and mention that it smelled of vanilla & amber. I love anything vanilla so it made me curious. I went to Priceline, where it was marked down from $89 to $20, smelled it & purchased it. It’s ‘Naked’ by Madonna, of all people.

$20 for something _you_ think smells nice is a pretty good deal!

Has anyone ever noticed that old people smell like frankfurts cooking? Personally, I don’t eat frankfurts (I’m on an offal & a-hole free diet). As long as you don’t smell like a 55+ year old naked woman you’re ok.

Misfortune8, I just saw your reply to me. What a crack up you are. Frankfurts cooking?! :))

I refuse most celebrity endorsed products! If a product is so good, it won’t need spruiking, it will have devotees based on quality alone. The only exceptions are Chanel (Diane Kruger) and MAC.

And if it is spruiked by the Kar-trash-ians, well then, no way I’m going near it.

I won’t buy a product simply because a celebrity is associated with it, but I do think that celebrity endorsements often help to bring new products to my attention. If I like what I see, then I will probably be tempted to at least have a look at the product or try to find some reviews about it and then make a decision whether or not to buy.

If the product doesn’t have an eye catching means of advertising, then there is a real chance that I won’t know about it or look for it at all.

Celeb endorsements turn me off products – and the celeb. If Miranda Kerr uses Clear shampoo then I am a pickled egg.
And Miranda Kerr irritates me more than most celebs, because she goes on about organic and natural and then takes a paycheque for endorsing a supermarket shampoo full of chemicals that’s tested on animals.

Haha I’ve thought the same thing about her Clear shampoo endorsement. As if she uses that stuff on her mane…same with Jennifer Aniston endorsing Aveeno. Wake up & smell the BS people!

Nope. I’m not a sucker! Most of the time these endorsements are just so the celebrity can have a bit of extra cash coming in and not because they actually use it.
I do have Lady Gaga’s perfume though, I like the smell of it :p
