How to fit sunscreen into my skincare and makeup regime?

Hey all,

Currently spring cleaning out all my products and trying to figure out a regime incorporating a high protection sunscreen I can stick to daily to save time as well as my skin.

I have oily/combination skin which absolutely hates too much moisturiser.

My current daytime regime is:
Cleanse/Tone, Serum or Skin Oil (I find after using an oil I don’t need a lot of moisturiser, if at all I just use a tiny amount of a gel-based one). After that I usually apply either a long-wearing liquid foundation, or a BB Cream with SPF. Sometimes mineral powder.

This regime usually works well for me during winter or on days I receive minimal sunlight. However I’m concerned about not receiving enough SPF protection just from my makeup alone. I can’t seem to be able to find a day moisturiser with SPF or a sunscreen that isn’t too heavy/greasy, and can fit into my regime without my makeup sliding and sweating off.

What’s your Summer regime and what would you recommend?

Some great suggestions here, the physical vs. chemical sunscreen debate does my head in a bit. I’ve only tried Invisible Zinc as a physical sunscreen but had a bad reaction as some people here, and it clogged up my pores terribly! Anyway, I think someone mentioned a dry mineral sunscreen you can just reapply easily over makeup (Sorry I’m too lazy to scroll :p). I stumbled upon this article about Colorescience dry mineral sunscreen. It comes with a brush and is SPF 50. I wonder if anyone has tried this? It seems like a pretty fab idea. Here’s the link to the article and product. http://www.trazeetravel.com/products/colorescience-apply-reapply-sunscreen-go.php

I mentioned the Peter Thomas Roth brush on sunscreen in this post

It is permanently in my handbag as it is absolutely brilliant to put on when you are unexpectedly in the sun or if you are concerned that the sunscreen you applied in the morning is no longer effective.

    Hope this helps xx

Ah thank you! 🙂 I will check it out and compare the different brands. I wish someone had thought of brush on dry sunscreen earlier, would have saved me soooo many hassles. Will definitely be purchasing one for summer and taking it with me wherever I go xx

I mix my sunscreen into morning Moisturiser for each day that I go out.

I’m lazy I like mine all ready-mixed I use Monsia Advanced Skin Renewal System, the Intense Moisturizing day cream has an SPF-15 rating.

    Scarlett Angel,

Juliyan is a spammer. I’ve reported it.

The sunscreen I use is the Cancer Council Oil Free Clear Sunscreen Continuous Spray SPF50+ (see picture below). You can buy it at Priceline for just under $20. Being oil free it won’t block pores.

I had a look on Priceline’s website and quite a few brands (i.e. Banana Boat, Neutregena) have aerosol sunscreens too. I try and buy Cancer Council products when I can as sales go towards cancer research. That’s just a personal thing. You may find a different brand works for you 🙂

I am going to look for a supplier here in the UK. Like the idea that it is supporting a charity I already support.

No spray sunscreen for me. I’m not sure why but it doesn’t feel as ‘real’ as stuff you need to rub in. But sunscreen comes after cleansing and moisturising for me. Don’t forget to apply to your hands either! They get a lot of sun and aging hands age your whole body.

On Zoe Foster’s blog is a great article explaining at what step to apply sunscreen.

Chemical Sunscreen-applied to a clean face before any serums and moisturisers.

Physical Sunscreen-applied after serums and moisturisers. This is because it is a physical barrier so any creams you apply after will not penetrate into your skin so will be a waste.

primer with SPF has worked wonders for me, Australis primer has 15+ spf in it and that’s perfect for me in winter for sure but I use it in summer too and I have no issues. it is super cheap as well!
