Skincare, another wanting help

Hi girls,
I am new to this beauty heaven, I am in love with good skin care and can’t get enough as it has been war since my teens trying to find the perfect skincare routine.
Just wanting to know what the best products are for my skin type?
I am combination, sensitive and have a bit of redness around my cheek area and have the occasional break out.
I am from Sydney and have access to stores such as Mecca to buy skin care from. I got samples of origins and mario badescu and want to know if these products are really all they are hyped up to be? As I don’t mind spending big (or little :)) money on good skin care.
Thanks heaps if you could help me would be greatly appreciated.
Have a great day/night :).
I should also say thanks for taking the time to read my post

If acne is a real problem go talk to your GP. Tretinoin is a doctor prescribed topical medication that is both anti acne and anti aging. It is the only scientifically proven solution to photo aging (sun damage).
I’m young and don’t have signs of aging like fine lines but I’m already on tretinoin and I will be using it indefinitely. I don’t use it for acne however, because I went on Roaccutane and have been clear of acne for the last 9 months (and hopefully forever).
My sister however, does use it for both acne and anti aging and she breaks out less frequently and her acne is smaller in size than when she wasn’t on tretinoin.
Keep me updated. Love hearing from you and your progress. 🙂

EDIT: btw when people hear the words prescription medication, they automatically imagine harsh chemicals, etc but tretinoin is just another form of Vitamin A. You mentioned Paula’s Choice products and I remember Paula talks a lot about tretinoin. Go and read all of the scientific reasons why tretinoin is really good for you on her website. She talks in depth about it. 🙂

    Thanks heaps again.
And it’s great to know you like hearing feedback was scared I was bombarding you with my troubles.
I don’t have acne at all, touch wood, I get really bad hormonal breakouts and then breakouts from certain bad eating habits (the occasional chocolate 😉 lol) and then from certain skincare brands, but beside the point, they leave me with scaring and it just looks horrible.
My mum’s partners daughter suffers with acne so I will tell her to talk to her GP about the topical medication. Thanks again

Catia have you thought about using a dab of tea tree oil on each spot, make sure you use a fresh cottonwool bud for each spot and for the scars perhaps jojoba oil might help? Have a read of this wellnesstoday.com/beauty/15-surprising-beauty-uses-for-jojoba-oil. Hope it helps.

Mario Badescu has some amazing stuff. I love Mario Badescu’s acne spot treatment the most and it has a cult following as well. I used to use Origins skin care in the US. Love their Checks and Balances cleanser, toner (in green bottle, can’t remember name) and their spot treatment. I also used their moisturizer but prolly the most basic one as I was in my teens then.

When it comes to skin care, expensive is not necessarily better. Look for cell communicating ingredients such as retinol (anti aging), niacinmides (anti acne, hydrating), hylaronic acid (hydrating), ceramides, peptides, (both anti aging – I think) vitamin c (sun protection, brightening, anti aging) aha’s, bha, (anti acne, cell turnover-anti aging) antioxidants (anti aging), etc. Also, wear a good sunscreen with SPF of at least 30, rain or sunshine.

Paula’s Choice has some great products that have a good combination of these ingredients so check out her website.
You can find these ingredients in many brands though so be on the lookout for the ingredients rather getting sucked in by pretty packaging or sassy marketing. Good luck.

    Hi,
    Just wanting to update,
So I started mario badescu cleanser, toner and moisturiser and I am breaking out and my skin doesn’t look clear like before 🙁
I was looking into Paula’s choice but that looks to complicated
I just want something that is natural, good for sensitive skin and stuff with anti aging agents.
I am going to stick to my the body shop seaweed cleanser and toner and just look for a good day cream and serum that combats aging and clears my skin.
So frustrating and I hate putting my skin through torture to find the right stuff 🙁

I really love Sukin. I have had a lot of troubles with my skin in the past both with acne and sensitivity. After using their range for a few months, my skin has done a complete turn around 🙂

    Thanks the salt life.
I have been hearing a lot about the brand Sukin always see it at chemist warehouse when I go there. I think I want to get the rose hip oil from that range. Here’s why…
I have started to get blind pimples (time of the month ones) and random ones as well, not sure what from, but i don’t touch them or pop them, cause I can’t, I put Mario Badescu drying lotion on them and then leave it overnight, they disappear in the morning but I get a scar once the pimple disappears, do you think getting rose hip oil would do the job in Helping the scaring?

Also just off topic a bit, I am using a cream cleanser, then a glycolic toner and then a vitamin enriched cream, do you think they would be causing the breakouts?

I eat healthy, splurge a lil on the weekend lol but I just can’t seem to pin point the cause of the breakouts.

The skincare routine so far has been doing good, I have a feeling it is hormonal breakouts cause besides that my skin is clear…

I’m just a little confused and upset that I can never find the resolution 🙁

A lot of French pharmacy brands seem to be great for redness and sensitive skin. Brands like La Roche Posay, Avene and Bioderma are all available at Priceline and often have specific lines for redness and sensitivity.

I have written all those ingredients down and will go on the hunt to find products suited to this.
