Retinol: Does more expensive = better?

Oh, wise beauties of BH, lend me your wisdom! When it comes to retinol, is one product just as good as the other or is it worth the splurge on a high-priced product for better results?

I’ve recently been made aware that I should be using a retinol product, so I’ve been using a serum that is actually quite nice, organic and a bargain at under $18 (15ml). But searching for other retinol products, they CAN be very expensive. That’s fine – my skincare products are my luxury item and I’m happy to spend up big, but only if the result justifies the price.

So since I’ve recently moved to the boonies and away from a Mecca, I’ve called and chatted with them about the Sunday Riley facial oils that contain retinol – Luna and Juno. They’ve very kindly offered to send me samples to try (thanks, Mecca!), but what I really want to know is – Is retinol retinol or is the $120+ price difference going to bag me a better result?

Surely one of you has asked the same question at some stage and got the inside info, right? Are we just paying for a big name and pretty packaging or are retinol products vastly different from one another?

I’ve received a full-size StriVectin-AR Advanced Retinol Night Treatment from another website to sample.

Does anyone have any experience with this brand? I’ve never heard of it before. Retails for approximately USD89.

Oh wow Lucrecia, that sounds painful! I hope you’re feeling better and not in too much pain. Great to see you’re keeping a positive attitude xx

OMG, Lucrecia that’s a terrible accident, I hope everything is ok! Through it all, you still have such a great sense of humour. I love your “take it on the chin” attitude, pun intended 😉

This is me trying to have a good sense of humour about the situation. Do I have a makeup free week and not even bother trying to pretty up my funky weird looking stitches beard, or does every little bit help? I don’t know, but if I had a stick-on moustache, I’d just put it on and call it a day!

Gosh thank goodness your husband was there and that it wasn’t your kids who found you! I can imagine you stressing about them and trying to reassure them whilst half out and dripping blood 🙁

OMG Lucrecia!! That’s terrible!! Do you know what caused the pain?? It’s pretty severe if you passed out from it!! Yes forget skincare for now concentrate on healing xo

Lucrecia How are you going with your A313?

I tried my Sunday Riley Bionic moisturiser sample and whilst it was a nice enough product and did it’s job, it certainly didn’t do the job of a $200 moisturiser!
