Olay fresh effects cleansing system?

Hi, just wondering if anyone has tried the semi-new Olay Fresh Effects Va-Va-Vivid Powered Contour Cleansing System?
I’ve never tried a powered cleansing brush before seeing as most are round the $100+ mark, so when this came out for just $17 I was super excited! I used it for about 2 weeks and straight away noticed my skin was improving, I have acne prone skin and while using this I had no break outs and it looked like my skin was finally clearing up! But then I noticed I was getting very congested, particularly around my jaw line, and it kept getting worse with all these little bumps appearing and spreading up to my cheeks. I quickly stopped using it and my skin went back to breaking out. I’m confused, what’s happening here? Was the cleansing bringing all my breakouts to the surface to eliminate them or was it just making me break out? Can anyone suggest something I might have been doing wrong, i.e using it too often, not cleaning it properly after use etc. I want to give it another try but I’m scared of getting disgusting congestion again 🙁
Help anyone?

Damn, I’ve been using coconut oil for ages and it’s never contributed to me breaking out :/ might have a play around with switching moisturizers and see how I go, thanks for the advice!

Yup, the bb cream but even more likely the coconut oil, although the coconut oil is great for your skin I would probably look in to another option for that one. I find it great for the body and hair but not always so friendly for the face.

It might be worth investigating the comedogenic properties of what you’re using. Coconut oil is moderately comedogenic. Maybe that’s the problem?

Peek my style – that’s what I thought was happening, that the break outs under my skin were being purged by the brush and would clear my skin. But after 2 weeks I’m doubtful :/

    Thanks for the replies!
Zaralis – I had not considered that it could be other facial products I use being better absorbed and creating the issue, that could be it. I used the brush daily mostly at night when I’d follow with my night moisturiser which is just organic coconut oil, or if during the day then I’d use my clean & clear moistuser (spf free) and follow with makeup. Could it be the makeup that’s the issue? I use lightweight BB creams but I guess they can still clog pores.

i use a similar product – Olay Regenerist Advanced Cleansing system. I heard the same as what Zaralis mentioned. The breakout would normally last a week, if longer than that, probably it was caused by other factors. When i first used the cleansing brush, i didn’t notice any breakout…but may be i only use it once a week or once every two weeks. I try not to scrub my skin with the brush too often. May be try to reduce the number of time that you use it would help…as the breakout might have been hidden and about to come out and when you use the brush, it sort of trigger it to resurface.

    Shut up spammer.

Inga I’ve heard from good sources that purging should last no more than a week, anything beyond that is just a plain old breakout, so if you get the little bumps and continue to use the product but they get worse or stay the same after a week while still using the tool then there is an issue related to either the tool or your current routine.

There is a possibility that it’s not the tool itself causing the issue, it could be your skin care. When using tools like this it makes it easier for products to absorb in to the skin and depending on the types of serums and creams you are using it could be getting a little deeper than you would want. A common way for this to happen is if you use the tool in the morning and then part of your routine involves putting a sunscreen on, products like this are notorious for being potential skin cloggers.

If you are able to give some more general information, we might be able to find where the issues could be. Things like how often you use it, when you use it, what you use it with, the items you use in your skincare routine and anything else you think could be useful information.
