Night Creams help please

Hi Lovelies,
Can someone please help me out with a night time moisturiser?

I’m 44 with oily/combo skin. I’m starting to see a few wrinkles and would like to find a non greasy night moisturiser.

I currently cleanse my face at night then use a serum (ultracuticals even skin tone serum) then apply a moisturiser.

I’ve used the Dr lewinns night cream – too oily and the I think it’s lorel (sp) night cream again too oily for me.

What’s a good one that won’t make my skin oily(er)

Thanks

Mitch

Hydrosols make great toners and refreshers for the skin – They conatain no alcohol and they are not drying.

Hydrosols are the waters collected when plants are steam-distilled to produce essential oils; they contain the same properties as essential oils but are in a milder form that can generally be used directly on the skin without further dilution.

Three of the main ones to consider are:-
    – Lavender Hydrosol makes an ideal toner for blemished skin
    – Orange Flower Hydrosol makes an ideal toner for balancing oily skin
    – Rose Hydrosol makes an ideal toner for normal to dry and sensitive skins.

As Petal says they are available from good aromatherapy supply stores.

Growing old, you can often find alcohol-free toners at health food stores and places that have a DIY natural skin care section. I have a store that I go to where I buy DIY supplies for ingredients such as jojoba oil, calendula oil, shampoo bases. You can also go to an aromatherapy wholesale supplier on the Internet, but sometimes you can only buy ingredients in bulk. Another place that you might find a natural toner is at your local handmade market where people sell their own range of natural skin products. Here are some lovely commercial toners that don’t have alcohol:

Even at my age..46…I find most night creams too heavy. I do enjoy nourishing creams and try to have a couple on the go at the same time so I can alternate depending on my skins needs for the day but I do tend to use my more nourishing but still light spf free day creams at night. I’ve found a lot of night creams have resulted in milia in the past which also deters me from paying heaps for a designated night cream. My day time creams while very nourishing and mostly natural brands like trilogy probably don’t have the anti ageing benefits my skin needs so may look into a more high tech anti ageing day cream to use at night so I at least feel like I’m helping with my ageing concerns

I’m 30 years older than you, Growing old, but I can relate to night creams being too heavy. I often use a Clarins serum which I find way too heavy for day but perfect at night. Only problem is that I need to put it on some time before bed because it doesn’t sink in immediately.

My new “I can shout about this one” product is the Sukin BioNatural oil that was in our August Discovery Bag – I absolutely love it – a mix of several oils which I find sink in quickly and feel so soft and lovely. Check out the other reviews which should be up in the next week or so to see if the other girls have been as OTT as I am with it. Antipodes might have a night cream to suit you. I often use day creams that I find too heavy as a day cream as a night cream.

I tend to think that as long as you are using a good anti aging serum and/oil then your moisturiser is only doing two things moisture and locking in the serums and oil. So any moisturiser that’s a texture you like and doesn’t create problems could work. I would look to serums for my anti aging rather than moisturisers because they are targeted at deeper levels of the skin.

    Apple Night Cream Ingredients
    For this, you will need:
    1 apple
    1 cup olive oil
    1 cup rose water
    Prepare the Apples
Split the apples in half and remove the stem. Cut out the core of the apple then chop it into small pieces
    Blend the Night Cream Ingredients
Put your chopped apples in a blender and 2 cups of olive oil and turn the blender on low until the apples and olive oil have properly mixed together.
    Double-Boil the Night Cream Ingredients
Set a medium bowl on top of medium saucer quarter filled with water. Heat until the mixture is warm and stir. Please don’t cook your apple. The raw apple in this cream contains malic acid which helps promote smoother and firmer skin. Once your mixture is warm, take it off the heat and cool it. Add rosewater and stir again until the rosewater and olive oil-apple mixture is combined.
Using and Storing Homemade Night Cream
Now your cream is ready. You can put it on before you go to sleep or keep the extra night cream in a plastic jar in the refrigerator.
In addition to this you can use Kojic Acid with Vitamin C

    Hi *laura k*
Ur night cream recipe looks interesting. I’ve been shopping around for plain rosewater and have only been able to find ones that are distilled and contain high levels of alcohol. I was wondering as you are into natural home made lotions can u recommend a rosewater that doesn’t have alcohol in it? I had started wondering if that’s the only way you can get it? Thanks

I used to buy rosewater from the chemist years back so they probably still have it. It’s not on the shelf though, you have to so ask the pharmacist and they distill some into a bottle for you. It’s fairly inexpensive from memory.

Rose Water tends to have a few different name variations such as Rose Hydrosol, Rose Floral Water, etc. The most common being Rose Hydrosol. Just google it, I pay around $10 for 125 ml

Am using the Simple night cream in the tub… its quite thick but not greasy and has no added fragrance. I’m loving it so far. Alternative nights I use a mixture of Sukin rose hip oil and seabuckthorn oil I got off iherb. Its been working well and helping to reduce blemishes. I only use a nightcream. During the day if I’m going out I use a moisturising primer.
