Layering serums help

This might seems like the silliest question ever…..

But when layering serums how do you choose which one to start with and the order you go in?? Sometimes I use 3 a night but change up which types i am using. I have just been going in the order of the first I pick up!!! How do you decide and what should be your deciding factors??

I switch between using a hyaluronic serum, la Roche posay effaclar duo (I know not technically a serum) an aha serum and my MTTO antiox serum.

Any help would be appreciated!!!

You’ve asked a great question about layering serums. I did a Google search on this topic and found some great advice on this:

I have always questioned how much the skin can absorb from products, especially with moisturisers that contain a myriad of ingredients. I prefer a product that has fewer ingredients but has higher potency actives (which is why serums are so good). What I like to do if I want to layer a product is cleanse my face early in the evening and apply a serum, then before bed, I apply a moisturiser. Sometimes I like to alternate products on different nights.

Thank u for sharing the links Petal. Interesting reading

I’m amazed at how many different products you’re all using! I use either moisturiser OR oil, & I don’t use a serum at all. I do use eye cream.
Does anyone remember the Ab Fab episode where Edina had a dead sea mud body wrap & her skin absorbed all the mud? She complained that every cell in her body had become an overeater.

If you use facial oil, you should use oil after moisturisers, as oils can penertrate moisturisers into skin, if you don’t do this anything you put on after won’t do anything from the skin

I always ready oil like serum, maybe that’s why I found the moisturiser just sit on my face after the oil. Will definitely reverse the order and see what difference it will do

    thanks for the advice

    Totally agree.
Why o you need more than one? You will clog your pores

So think about it like this moisturiser is to seal and protect your skin, they sit on the top, serums are to treat and go beneath.
If you need two serums, why don’t you apply one in the morninig and one at night, I do that

Thanks for sharing cat lover, that’s a great explanation. I love it when companies are helpful, indeed labs are going on my “good” list.

That’s very true Trish. I let Indeed Labs know how much their response was appreciated. I also emailed the Skincare Company today (the place where a bought my amazing Niacinamide serum) to tell them that their customer service was the clincher in my decision to purchase from them rather than a competitor. Love to you and the kitties xo

I just received an useful email from Indeed Labs that I wanted to share. I suppose this is an appropriate place to post it!

    Skin care tip:
With product layering, wait a minute or two between applying different products (serums, moisturisers, foundation) to allow for proper absorption and ultimately better effectiveness. This also helps prevent product pilling.

Serums are usually more concentrated and are designed for beneath the surface. Moisturisers are built for topical use.

In general: serums go before cream formulations.

Within this rule of thumb: layer according to what you feel your skin is needing most and/or the resulting benefit you feel is most important.
The order of product layering can change all the time even within using the same products as skin requirements change with the weather, seasons, aging, etc.

For e.g. If your skin is feeling really dry, then apply hydraluron moisture serum first. However, if anti-aging is more a concern, then apply retinol reface first. Or if you have dark areas or spots from summer sun etc, then apply pepta-bright first.
Try multiple combinations and see if one gives you a result you prefer.

Recommended order of application / layering, if using one or more Indeed Labs products*:
*Pick and choose which Indeed Labs products you need to layer.
All Indeed Labs products are suitable for use individually, layered together and/or combined with your favourite go-to products.

Really interesting – thanks cat lover. I always let applications dry but the information is sensible as well as informative. Doesn’t it make you feel good when companies respond as you think they should? Have a good weekend.

You’re welcome Misy Rose. I wait until the first product has dried/absorbed, which is only a few seconds usually:)
