How to Make Foundation Last Through the Day

I’ve never been able to keep my foundation the way it is when I put it on, fairly quickly my blemishes and dark spots get uncovered, and I often get unslightly rings around, not on my blemishes where I applied concealer, it’s like it moves off the actual blemish and collects around it. I’ve tried using several different primes but they don’t seem to help. Powder doesn’t seem to help either, though I’ve only used one. i was thinking of a finishing spray, but the good ones seem expensive. Anyway, does anyone else have this problem, or a solution? Also, I believe my skin is slightly oily, and sensitive

Has anyone tried the Wayne Goss method yet? Seems to be working for lot of people.

Sorry to drag this up but I used this method today and my foundation still looked dewy at the end of the day! I used pressed powder though and it still worked 🙂

    Yes, it’s fabulous.

Ugh lots of those seem expensive! I have tried the porefessional but I didn’t notice any results.
I’ve just been using a cheap powder right now. But I’m realizing that powder makes my uneven skin more obvious- I have these tiny annoying fleshing bumps on my cheeks and forehead which make my skin look pretty uneven 🙁 I posted about my skin problems too haha. Haven’t heard of the wayne goss method though.
I think they’re “closed comedoes” or something

I find that a good powder to set the foundation makes mine last all day. I use a pressed powder by mac. I put it on about 6am and lasts until about 5pm. then i can see a difference in my foundation, become a bit shiny. But MAC have great powders.

I used to have this problem, but ever since i’ve switched to the porefessional primer, my foundation has stayed!

    Hey!

I see that you said you have used primers but they don’t work – I tried so many primers til I found the right one! I now use LA Base by Lancôme. This might not be the one for you but I wouldn’t give up on your primer hunt.

I also use Urban Decay make up setting spray. This helps all my make up stay perfect through the night and I never need to reapply leaving room in my clutch on a night out for more important things than make up – although what is? 😉

Let us know how you get on!

  • You put your concealer on after your foundation and blend it with a foundation sponge. If you haven’t done it before it’s worth learning how to use the sponge to blend. When you apply concealer and then putting foundation over the top your actually wiping away the concealer. The only time I put concealer on before foundation is when I am using my airbrush machine, but I’m guessing not everyone has one of those. Another trick to help your foundation last is to use a translucent power throughout the day.

I’d definitely second the Double Wear suggestion. It’s serious staying power. The Double Wear Light is just as long lasting and in my opinion an even better formulation. Wayne Goss recently posted a video recommending the following: moisturise > radiance boosting primer > a light dusting of loose translucent (setting) powder > foundation > a little more of the powder on the T zone. I’ve been trying it and I have to say it has made my foundation last and last. It also sets faster, so blend quickly! It’s like a powder/foundation/powder sandwich of awesomeness.

The best option to make your foundation stay in place is obviously to find a foundation with long wear! Something like Smashbox Studio Skin foundation work amazing.
However using these steps will also give you the best chance at your makeup working well
    1. Use a primer designed for long lasting wear
    2. Use a mineral foundation powder for touch ups instead of re applying concealer so that there isnt as much build up so that there isnt as much chance of breakouts
    3. Use a makeup finishing spray. An awesome cheap one is Australis Makeup Finishing Spritz. While this one wont make your foundation last longer it will make sure your makeup doesnt look to powdery or cakey (so you can touch up as much as you please)
Hope this helps a bit 🙂
