How do YOU apply your serum?

I have just read a blog that suggests that you will get better results from your serum if you apply it to lightly dampened skin as skin is more permeable when damp.
Last night I applied mine after a spritz of that Avene thermal spring water, but I plan to grab a couple of hydrating toning mists and incorporate those as well.
I use a toner then bha, do you think it’s ok to let that dry and then spritz and then apply serum? I don’t want to dilute the bha in any way, or render it less effective.

Anyway, just wanting to know how you apply yours?

After I clean my face, toner goes on ( patting in, unless I’m using a cotton pad to wipe off excess makeup),BHA, then essences, then serums then moisturiser.

The general idea is that you apply the most watery stuff on your face and layer the heavier products on top! Optional! Apply your serums, put a sheet mask on, then remove and apply moisturiser on top for extra goodness and pampering.

I apply mine a few minutes after my toner (applied with a cotton ball) has settled into my skin. But I wouldn’t say I press or pat it into my skin. I put two pumps worth on my hand (not much comes out) and then I put a little on a finger and blend it in, in a circular motion.

Ladies, BH published a great article about this recently:

    http://www.beautyheaven.com.au/skin-care/anti-ageing/benefits-using-face-serum-14610

Specifically (and this routing is a great reference):

    Layering your skin care products:
    Step 1. Cleanser
    Step 2. Tone/mist
    Step 3. Correcting/spot treatment
    Step 4. Facial serum
    Step 5. Facial oil
    Step 6. Moisturiser
    Step 7. Sunscreen

This is the article where the Vanessa Megan Resurrect Anti-Aging Serum was raised as a promoted product option!

Ever since I used the Vanessa Megan Oil from last month’s Discover Bag, I’ve been pouring out a few drops of facial oil onto my hand, and then spraying Avene thermal water and then rubbing my hands quickly together and applying onto my face.
I do this with Rosehip oil or any other oil.

That’s about as damp as I get my skin. It seems to be the same as applying body lotion as soon as you get out of your shower, while the skin is still damp.

Renee, I think the general order is wash, tone, serum, oil, moisturiser. Though I’m sure there’s plenty of variation (plus adding in any specific treatments like benzoyl peroxide or bhas etc).

I apply it after my shower or cleansing my face and always after toning. I can’t stand letting my skin go dry before applying serum and moisturisers. I also wait at least 10 mins before layering any thing else over my serum.

I also thought this was a press vs pat serum debate. Ha!

I use it straight after the shower before putting on my face oil. I thought it would be more effective being on fresh skin instead of my face oil. Am i wrong?

Ooh and another question – do you let your face dry before applying your toner? I try to not pat dry, just allow my face to air dry while I walk to my makeup table, so that it’s not exactly damp but not bone dry either, as I hate that feeling.

It’s so funny how beauty advice changes/isn’t set in stone at any rate. Years ago I would have been horrified at the layering of so many products, now I’m like, “Essence? What is this essence? I think I need that!” But seriously, what the heck is essence??

I apply serum after my toner, so my skin is a little bit damp anyway.
