Has anyone reacted to skincare containing bee venom?

I’ve recently started (approx two weeks ago) a new day cream that contains bee venom and I’m really loving it. However, the last two days my eyes are watering like crazy just a few minutes after applying. I’m not sure if it’s a cooincidence or not as surely if I were going to react it would have happened sooner? No other products I’m using (eye cream etc) are new.

I’m going to switch to something else the next couple of days and then try again to make sure that it’s definitely this product causing issues. For the record, I don’t have an allergy to bee stings (although I’ve only ever been stung once and it was as a child).

Anyone else experience something similar?

ETA – just realised the irony considering my avatar! 😉

Hi MayDay, often with allergies they can develop after the second or subsequent exposure to the allergen. Their certainly are cases of allergies developing on the initial exposure too though.

It could still be possible you have a bee allergy if you have only been bitten once. My brother developed anaphylaxis after his 3rd bee sting (yes he carries an epi pen)
His allergy extends to all by products too, a Christmas ham glazed with honey caused his lips to start swelling!

ray_jay – No, not allergic to bees (unless it can develop later in life and I just don’t know it yet?) My brother is though so maybe I’m susceptible…

Petal – I’d definitely steer clear if you were allergic as a child. Just not worth the risk I think.

evie82 – Interesting that you had the same reaction although it didn’t sting my face (thankfully!)

I used a different moisturiser this morning and so far so good. I’ll leave it for a couple more days and then try again so I can be 100% sure that it was the culprit!

I’m sorry that I can’t help you, but I’m glad that you provided this feedback. Sometimes I have wanted to try a bee venom product, but I’ve hesitated because I was seriously allergic to bee stings when I was a child. Based on your experience, I’m happy that I hesitated.

    Hi May

I had same experience with bee venom . I was at a gf place doing facials and applied a product and made my eyes water and skin sting.

So def wont be using any products that contain bee venom.
