Dry, red, itchy Winter skin help!

Hi ladies

I just woke up to wind burnt and red skin, although I moisturise religiously with rosehip oil morning and night and slather vitamin E cream on afterwards. If I’m going outside I use Invisible Zinc ESP on top.

However, my skin is dry and red and my cleansers are gentle and have not affected my skin the past three months. It’s definitely the dry cold.

Do you have any ideas to help stop the winter redness? Are ‘barrier creams’ a solution?

During the winter, my skin gets really dry also. Sometimes it got so dry and itchy that it hurt. I’ve tried different creams. but I didn’t got the results. I also have very sensitive skin. I began using coconut oil, i think that it works as a shield for the skin, it protects it and makes it more hydrated. You should find a product that it’s organic and natural, these are the best. definitely coconut oil.. Its so moisturising for your skin specially if you apply at night…
You can also use body lotion bars.. they are this new thing I came across online – made out of coconut oil and shea butter.. I trying Crushed Pepper brand and they are amazingly good.. love them 🙂

also you should try using natural skincare without any harsh chemicals in them…

I used to also get dry and itchy skin over parts of my body in winter.

I am now showering with Woolworths Home Brand Skin Repair Cream instead of “shower gel” (read cheap, cheap!!), and then I apply Elizabeth Grant Wonder Effect Body Lotion all over.

The skin on my body feels so silky smooth and soft all over now. No dry itchiness yet this year! (Need to keep fingers crossed…)

If it’s not your face, I highly recommend the Eucerin Aquaphor Cream which is super emollient and is probably the only thing that works on my really dry skin during an eczema flare up where it actually hurts it’s so dry! However, I don’t know how readily available it is in Australia though…

As for face, the Avene Skin Recovery Cream is an absolute lifesaver for me when nothing else seems to work! 🙂

The only thing that’s ever worked on my legs was a dry oil. I’ve got horrific skin on my legs – it gets so dry that if I even lightly scratch them the skin splits open and bleeds. It’s bad. I’ve had decent luck with oil-based moisturizers and moisturizing masks (my favourite is GlamGlow’s ThirstyMud). Good luck. Dry skin is miserable.

I’ve been using Phyisogel on the children’s dry skin and it is has been awesome. Highly recommend.
I use a combo of oil, body butters and when in a rush Nivea In Shower Conditioner topped up by Vaseline Body Lotion Spray.

I use Lush’s Dream Cream on my legs – it’s expensive but I definitely recommend it. Vaseline’s Spray on moisturiser things are really nice too.
For my face I use Sukin Rosehip oil. It’s amaaaaaaaaaaazing.

I have dry scaly and flaky skin year round and for my body my derm suggested that I use a soap free wash from QV and moisturize with QV cream right after shower when skin is still damp.
I’ve also picked up this amazing product called Urederm from one of my trips to the pharmacy. It has 10% urea which attracts water to your skin. I love love love this cream for my body esp on areas where I might get flaky skin.
For my face I use Cetaphil but am going to transition to more hydrating moisturizers with hydrating ingredients like hylaronic acid and niacinamides.

And I would use natural products and eliminate SLS from all your skin products =)

Agree with the SLS part. Sulfates flare up my dermatitis. They are often found in cleansers but you can go without them on face and body. Just check labels carefully 🙂

I don’t agree that “natural” is better though. Many plant extracts are potential irritants. I would instead advise looking for things with short ingredients lists.
