Dry patches and red skin

So has any one got a fix it for red skin. I have really red cheeks, and I don’t mean a nice rosy complexion it looks horrible. I also have dry patches even if I moisturize daily twice. I had picked up some sukin sensitive skin care and for the first week it worked wonders, my face felt as smooth as a babies bum but all of sudden starting with my forehead and then my cheeks, my skin has slowly started to become dry again 🙁

Anyone else have a problem like this or know how to fix red skin or why my skin has started to dry out again even though im still moisturizing with the sam stuff that made my skin feel so nice at the start.

I had a similar issue recently, my forehead got really red and itchy and dry. I found a few different things helped.

I changed my moisturiser to a sensitive moisturiser that was designed for hydration. I’m currently using the Camellia Nut Lotion (http://www.aesop.com/au/skin-care/hydrate/camellia-nut-facial-hydrating-cream.html) but I also find Frank Body Everyday Moisturiser really good as well (https://au.frankbody.com/collections/skincare/products/everyday-face-moisturiser). Though there are many good drugstore ones as well, I just find my skin disagrees with more drugstore moisturisers.

I also find using a serum or oil can help with the dry skin. I have been using the Darphin Rose Aromatic Care, slightly pricier but also really lovely http://mecca.com.au/darphin/rose-aromatic-care/I-008208.html?cgpath=brands-darph-all#sz=36&start=37

The Goodness Chia Seed Oil is also great http://www.beautyheaven.com.au/skin-care/moisturisers/product/certified-organic-chia-seed-oil

Weleda Skin Food has been my absolute saviour though. It’s quite a thick cream, but does wonders for dry skin! http://www.weleda.com.au/skin-food-30ml/

thanks for all the tips 🙂 definitely taking it all on board 🙂 I actually without even thinking just used my normal face cleanser and moisturizer without even thinking! so starting tomorrow i will start eliminating products to find the culprit. Also I will definitely be heading to the GP if it continues. I have had an allergic reaction before as i have really sensitive skin. Ahh finding the perfect products can be so hard sometimes.

My mother was told she had rosacea, how the doctor says it’s not rosacea, but doesn’t have any suggestions. She had some expensive cream on prescription which she says didn’t help. Now she uses Invisible Zinc tinted daywear. She sits watching tv at NIGHT rubbing it in. She says it helps reduce the redness & pain. She used to say that her cheeks got so sore she felt like they’d start bleeding (they didn’t, they just hurt a LOT).

Even though you’re using the same moisturising cream which used to make your skin feel soft, you can develop an allergy overnight to something you’ve used safely for years. I’d try skipping your usual moisturiser for a few days & see how you go. Work through your products & eliminate them to see if it makes a difference. It might even be your washing powder! You never know.

The IZ tinted daywear is listed here on bh: http://www.beautyheaven.com.au/make-up/foundation-primer/29098-invisible-zinc-tinted-daywear-anti-ageing-facial-moisturising-sunscreen-spf-30-
There’s a 20g purse pack size if you wanted to trial it. It’s on sale a lot.

    Good luck Maddy!

Maddy_249 Any idea if it is rosacea?

Red skin can be triggered by heat, sun or certain food including alcohol.

Have you introduced a new skincare product to your regime?

    Some suggestions

    • Make sure you are using products that are fragrance free & colour free

    • Apply sunblock/sunscreen without fail

    • Keep your body hydrated and drink lots of fluid

    • Increase your consumption of fatty fish or take fish oil supplements.

    • For the dry skin, i recommend a Rose Hip Oil which many of us love. You could try Kosmea or A’kin Rose Hip Oil.

    • Try Hope’s Relief Premium Eczema Cream (available at priceline), it is great for your skin irritations and doubles as a moisturiser (suitable for face/body)

    • Try Aloe Vera for the red skin (you probably need many layers of this).

I would definitely run to a GP.

This was exactly how my allergic reaction started. I only have had once in my lifetime. Dry patches and redness. At first I thought I had dry skin and I just packed moisturiser on top. It only got worse after a week, my face started to swell. The GP had to put me on some steroid cream. During that time, nothing on the face except steroid cream and water.

When my face got better, i could cleanse with dermalogica ultracalming cleanser. But nothing else.

I then try to isolate my skin care. Slowly introduce the products back one by one (add only one product every 2 weeks). Turns out the culprit is an Ultraceuticals sunscreen, which I had used for a few months. All of a sudden my skin could not tolerate it anymore. I tried twice. Each time my face started to itch and red and swell within a couple of hours (2nd and subsequent reactions are worse than the first time).

Once I shelfed it my skin became so much better. Lately I am happy with my smooth skin but still recovering from the thinning and scarring that horrible reaction had left me with.
