Acne Prone Skin Care Routine

Hi everyone!

I have had acne for about 10 years now and as i’m sure a lot of you can agree, I’m sick of it!
It seems to go in cycles… skin looks great for 1-2 weeks, then small breakouts, then it spreads down my neck and chest, argggh.
Does anyone have any recommendations for this? I stopped taking the pill about 6 months ago so i’m sure this has been a contributor but i’d love to hear anyones suggestions.

Thanks!

after seeing a highly reputable dermatologist, they recommended Ultraceuticals and tailored it to my skin needs. It was pricey but i’m sure you can relate that after years of being frustrated with our skin it’s worth it.

Anyway, he gave me: Ultra brightening cleanser, ultra clear treatment lotion, ultra clear spot treatment, and skinmedica retinol 0.5. I also bought ultra mattyfying spf30 broad spectrum sunscreen because of the retinol Within 10 days i saw a HUGE difference!

Hey Stephinays First off gahhhh i feel your frustrations on the doctor just telling you to go back on the pill (for some doctors it seems to be the solution for most issues – bad cramps = pill, acne = pill) for some people the pill just doesn’t work (for me it doesn’t, too many side effects)

Anyways, my acne tends to come in cycles too (matching my cycle – tend to break out just before a period) so maybe watch yours and see if it does follow that pattern.

My nightly skin care routine is – 1: make up wipe/oil based cleanser, 2: Alpha-H balancing cleanser, 3 – Innisfree tea tree serum, eye cream and moisturiser. (about three times a week i’ll use a face scrub after the cleanser, and about once a week i’ll do a face mask)

The biggest difference i found was made when i started double cleansing, and wearing make up for limited times (usually forgo make up on weekends and take it off straight after work) really helped me.

Hi stephinays, I’m in the same boat and even though i want to come off the pill, everytime i do it causes my skin to breakout constantly, have you spoken to your GP about alternatives?

If it’s in your budget i would definitely recommend booking an appoinment to see a skin/laser specialist to assess your skin and see what treatments and skincare might help. For me something that helped clear up the congestion in my skin, helped with scarring and pore size was a course of fractional laser.

I love dermalogica and mario badescu products for spot treatment, cleansing and masks. I use a synergie vitamin b serum to help with redness and keep oil at bay and am using a cosmedix vitamin a cream to strengthen my skin.

The two most effective skin care products I use every night are the dermalogica daily resurfacer and the synergie vitamin b serum.

Hope you find something that works for you i completely understand how frustrating acne is

      Hi Naomi,

Thanks so much for your detailed response!

I have been to see a GP and his recommendation was “”go back on the pill”” very frustrating.
I`ve tried many different antibiotics and nothing seems to work.

I have been having regular facials and find that my skin looks good for a couple of days afterwards, then the cycle repeats.

I have heard good reviews about the mario badescu drying lotion so i might try that, however my pimples seem to be smaller, under the skin ones.

Thanks again for your response and I will keep you posted!

      🙂

Not sure if you’ve ever browsed Reddit but they have a subreddit called Skincare Addiction and there are some great routines on there.

The la Roche Posay efficlar range is great and also the Kate sommerville line works well too.
