recommendation please!

Hi, everyone! I have used only sunscreen products so far, but I am thinking about trying some makeup products, such as foundation or BB, for covering the blemishes on my face. I didn’t care about them that much, but they seem a little bit annoying when I look into a mirror these days. However, I don’t know enough about cosmetics, so I don’t know what products are good and I should use for my skin. I have a pale face, and pretty sensitive and dry skin type. What products would be the good one for me?

If you’re new to wearing foundation you need to make sure you get the right shade.
Head to a MAC counter and get them to sample some on your face. But make sure you check it outside first! Just in case they a shade out (sunlight is far more accurate).
Once you know what shade you are you’ll be able to transfer to other products easier.

What sort of budget do you have?

You can start using foundation but make sure you use primer. If you’re prone to closed comedones (blackheads / whiteheads) then get a water based primer. It will help with reducing breakouts.

But before the primer, ensure you put on some facial sunscreen since we’re now in Summer 🙂 (I use Neutrogena, it’s light weight, SPF50 and not expensive)

As for foundation itself it really does depend on your skin colour.
I’m quite pale so my go to drug store foundation is Innoxa. But if you’re medium to dark you’ve got a lot more options.

You also got different types of foundation.
Liquid foundation is mostly water based and oil-free – it also offers light to medium coverage which is perfect if you only have a few spots. It’s perfect for all skin types as well which helps if you’re trying them out. I find it easier to apply liquid foundation with a brush and finish off the application with a sponge to really blend it in.

Though if you want to start of easy or go for something natural. Try mineral make up. It’s great for oily to combination skin and provides a medium coverage. If you do go the mineral make up route make sure it doesn’t contain any talc powder.

If you want heavy coverage, cream foundation will provide it. But better for dry to normal skin.

It’s always good to have concealer for spots or for dark eyes. Just remember that green works best to counter the red and a lighter colour for under your eyes 🙂

Maybelline’s Dream Pure BB cream is oil free and contains 2% salicylic acid which is great for blemish prone skin. It is made for oily skin I think, but I don’t think that will make a huge difference, it has a semi-matte finish (Not too wet looking & not too powdery/dry looking).

I have fair skin and the ‘light’ shade is good enough for me. It’s a little darker than my neck but it blends seamlessly and the consistency is great. I think Big W and Woolies have Maybelline 30-40% off if you wanted a try. I love it 🙂

I just cover up with Maybelline’s FITme concealer in ‘fair’ for any extra difficult blemishes. It’s a nice and creamy concealer with loads of coverage. If you have pale skin the shade ‘fair’ is good for pinky coloured pale skin and the shade ‘light’ is good for yellowy coloured pale skin. I really recommend these products 🙂

If you don’t know what complexion you have, if you look at the veins on the underside of your wrist, if they are a green colour, you should have yellow undertones and are a ‘warm’ complexion. if your veins are a blue colour, you should have pink undertones and have a ‘cool’ complexion.

But testing your makeup before you purchase anything is your best bet.

    Good luck!
    xx

As you’re just starting out in makeup, a tinted moisturiser/BB cream might be easier to start with. I’m not into BB creams because I love medium to full coverage, but once I tried a BB cream because it was a good match for my pale skin. It is Innoxa Skin Perfecting Foundation 5 in 1 BB Cream in shade Buff (it’s listed on BH). It wasn’t enough coverage for me (I have broken capillaries), but I still think that it’s a nice product.

Another option if you don’t want to wear lots of makeup is to only apply concealer to your blemishes and not wear foundation. Pick one that blends well with a seamless finish so it isn’t noticeable.

i’ve had a pretty good result from the one by the body shop but the best ones with high spf tend to be created by asian brands. as they like pale stuff anyway, it can work out quite well for you…
i recommend the ones by missha as they always look ‘pale’ on me…

My face is dry as well, so I put more layer of moisturizers (especially during the winter) before putting foundation, BB cream or sometimes I mix them with moisturizers before applying on my face. I’m using both liquid foundation and BB cream and I choose one depending on my makeup style each day. The foundation I have now is Nars Sheer Glow Foundation (http://www.sephora.com/sheer-glow-foundation-P247355?skuId=1202167), and Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation (http://www.sephora.com/luminous-silk-foundation-P393401?skuId=1359553), and the BB cream is IASO Triple Protection BB Cream (http://go-iaso.com/products/iaso-triple-protection-bb-spf30-pa?variant=4244104259). Among them, actually I use the BB cream mostly everyday because it’s really moist even when I don’t put enough moisturizers on my face, but still conceals my dark spots and acne marks well.
