No more settling for less.

Seriously now, I’ve had the worst luck with foundations in my life. I can’t find any foundation that actually matches my skin tone. They are all WAY TOO DARK. Or WAY TOO LIGHT. I’m not dark skinned, but I’m not pale white either. I’m like light olive and finding the perfect foundation with good coverage and that sets well WITHOUT smudging is a serious nightmare! Someone help!

Thanks gals! I have a MAC foundation I ordered but it was so dark when it got here I mixed it with a really pale foundation and its not like its a horrible colour, I mean I got it pretty close to my shade. But the way it blends is not so great. I’m actually in New Zealand, and unfortunately for me not Christchurch or Auckland so high end makeup shops or atleast good makeup shops are not such a skip and a jump. I will however be trying to find a colour that suits me in Rimmel as I love the way their foundation sets on my face. If all else fails I may have to splurge for something better.

I just remembered I read somewhere that a celeb mixes turmeric with foundation to achieve a more yellow toned base. Worth looking into.

I struggle with the same problem! My skin tone is extremely yellow but in a darker shade, but not quite olive and absolutely no pink. I have never found a foundation that matches me at the shops.I have been to several makeup artists and a few of the biggest mua stores in Australia. they told me that cosmetic companies mass produce varying degrees of a certain shade range, but there are certain shade gaps that they miss.. And I happen to sit in the gap. So from then on I’ve only bought from professional mua stores and they always pick out 2 shades for me to mix at home.

I concur with everyone who has recommended a makeup artist brand. I always think highly of Ben Nye. They have a huge range of shades for all complexions. They are reasonably priced compared to high end foundation and have equal/better quality. I have Ben Nye Matte HD foundation it is amazing! So is the famous Banana Powder (Beige Suede is my shade). But it is a hard to find brand to get a shade match. Worth googling a stockist so you can try the shades on.

I second the Bobbi Brown and Mac foundation recommendations for yellow based olive skin types. I used to use Bobbi Brown in Natural Tan 4.5 but am currently using Mac pro long wear in NC30.
I think I will go back to Bobbi Brown though, as I prefer the look and finish of it more than the Mac. Plus I feel the Mac oxidizes a bit once I’ve put it on.

Bobbi Brown is the queen of yellow based foundations and does some really nice ones. Mac is also good. These are the best brands for yellow tones with a big range of colours. If you can’t find your perfect shade you mite have to buy 2 foundations to mix together. My advice… Stay away from drug store foundation as they’re pink galore!

I have the same problem. I have light, olive skin with a yellow hue and it’s always a bit too dark or it always has a more pink hue. Have you tried MAC studio fix fluid? They have a huge range of colours and they are full coverage. David Jones also has their own range of foundations that are surprisingly really good as well!

You are probably better buying foundations from professional makeup artist stores such as Scotty’s Makeup. For example, RCMA has olive foundations:

    Olive Foundation Series

There is a professional makeup store in USA where you can buy samples of foundations:

You can try Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation and Make Up For Ever HD Foundation – both have a few olive shades.

If you are willing to try 100% mineral powder foundations, some companies have shades with an olive undertone.

If you live near a Mecca store, you could ask a sales assistant to test some foundations on you.

I remember using lots of foundations and it wasn’t until my chemist gave me a sample of Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Perfectly Nude Foundation. I use the colour beige No 13 and honestly, I love it. I’ve been using this foundation for over 2 years now.

I find it gives great coverage, is light on your skin. Your skin feels like it actually breathes through the foundation. Lasts a long while as you really only need a little bit for coverage.

It just feels beautiful and actually looks natural.

I definitely recommend the Covergirl 3-in-1 foundation. It runs quite yellow/olive so it may suit you better. Priceline now has that foundation matcher thing so you might benefit from asking them to match you up!
Otherwise, I find that Revlon Colorstay and Rimmel’s foundations tend to set very quickly and don’t budge for quite a while.

I definitely know how you feel about the shade matching. When I first started out with make up, I didn’t know anything about undertones and since I was so pale, just bought the palest I could find. Now, I realise that I’m very yellow based (and I made the mistake of buying pinky foundations so I looked like a salmon!) and that I’m not as pale as I initially thought.
