I have actually looked into the Cert NP course also and am really keen to do it but have been offered some other make up training so am going to see how that goes and if I want to do the NP one – I adore all the products and everytime I walk past a NP store I wish I was working there haha

Good luck with it Amy x

Just thought I’d put my 2c worth in even though this thread is a bit dead – Me and my friend did the course in Bne last year and we were really disappointed. Without sounding too negative the course didn’t really teach us anything we didn’t know apart from constantly pushing the ‘Napoleon’ way and their products. 1 of the Teachers was really nice and helpful but some of the others were just downright rude and unhelpful. Also some of the girls in the class ended up in tears some nights out of frustration and because of the way the teacher spoke… and quite a few stopped coming half way through .. If I were to do it again I would go somewhere else to do my course.

Brisbane is fail for beauty courses in my opinion.

    Hi Amy.
I completed my Napoleon Perdis Certificate in Fashion, Glamour and Bridal Makeup Artisty at the Brisbane Academy in May last year. Was a great experience. Learnt ALOT and i love the products, but most of all my brush roll 😀
It did set me back just over $2200 (for the curious folk out there). However im not doing any freelance work just yet. Hoping to get my act together mid year and start something. My dream is to do a diploma course as i LOVE doing crazy, unique, and really creative makeup. Special FX and Period Makeup is something i’d love to have a go at oh and body painting too.
Alot of the makeup i do (mostly just for fun) is very Gore/ Horror based and Fantasy/ Avant Garde. I think fancy dress and halloween would be my chosen field of work. Some of my stuff is on my facebook if anyone is intersted in checking it out.

I have an entry on the Napoleon Perdis Makeup Academy Group on Youtube for the
NPMA Student Competition 2009. Judging isn’t until the end of the month so if anyone wants to check me out go take a peek 😛
My entry is called She’s Jokeresque

(highlight the whole link and paste it to your brouser – won’t go straight to my video for some odd reason.) thanks

Overall the course is a great heads up to what the industry is about – the techniques and styles are really cool. you sort of think to yourself “why didn’t i think of that”? lol, and the trainers are really nice, helpful and inspiring!

    Good Luck!

    hi Amy

I did my makeup course with Napoleon Brisbane more than 5 or may be 6 years ago.
I did learn a lot of things which are the very basics of makeup.
But after that, makeup is all about your creations and your own imagination…only the sky is your limit~~~
I guess when i did it the course was a lot cheaper too~ like $800?? i dont know how much are they now.
They do give you work experience which are very good start but i dont suggest you buy all the prodcuts cos there are better products out there~
I am now a free lance makeup artist for photo shoots, weddings and fashion shows…and i really love what i do~~
So go for it if you have signed up and makeup sure you ask as many questions as you want!!! The trainers are quite nice and were able to give you many opinions…

If you have a read of the thread Thanks Pink Diva under Beauty Dilemma on the last page she has given some great advice about how she got into the industry, she is an established MUA 🙂

thankyou to everyone who replied I did do a quick search on the forums but for some reason I had no luck finding any posts… but I did look it up at 3:30 in the morning and that could be why haha.

Anyway I have already signed up and paid for half of the course, I have looked into our schools around Brisbane but I wasn’t very impressed with alot of the courses offered and I have a neighbour who is a beautition and she said that she would reccomened Napaleon Accademy because they are a good starter to get into the field of being a MUA and are probably the most up to date with all the latest info and trends.

I actually even looked into a Make Up Academy in Sydney called Cameron Jane * i think – don’t quote me I could be wrong* and the advanced course was nearly $10,000 total – but the course outline was pretty extensive – but I figure go with a cheaper course before I definitely know it’s what I want to do!

So fingers crossed I get something out the course and it will lead to bigger and better things – I figure not all is lost even if I don’t get as much out of the course as expected at least I will be able to tell if actually have the skills to do make up on someone other than myself – that’s always tricky.

But anyhow I’ll let you guys know how it goes – I’m really excited!
