PLEASE help! I have bought it today and I don’t know how to apply it? With a beauty blender what?

Hey personally I use this with a damp makeup sponge, as I find it helps to blend it out well and still provide great coverage. What I do is apply the foundation using the stick to areas where coverage is needed, then I get the damp sponge and blend it in, works well for me, haven’t tried any other methods with this. Give it a go, otherwise you could always try it out with a brush or just fingers, I guess its a bit about personal preference and trial and error. Hope this helps 🙂

Never used a stick foundation before this trial!

Having used it a few times (I work in hospitality, and makeup touch ups are non-existant), I find it lasts me about 2 hours over primer and set with powder. It is a very light coverage, and I expected it to be a bit thicker. Having said that, it is buildable, but with limited success – I usually sandwhich my concealer (I suffer from acne, and coming off my medication in the last week it is back with a vengence) between two layers of foundation, but applying this over concealer ‘drags’ the concealer away.

I’ve had the best success with this by using primer, a layer of stick (I’m just kind of swirling it on in patterns then using fingers to spread), concealer and then a layer of liquid, then powder/blush/translucent to make it stay. This is helping my liquid last longer! If you have skin concerns that need med-heavy coverage, use this as a base to cover redness/spots then continue with other products.

I use Shiseido Stick Foundation but it is their control stick. It needs to be applied beneath all foundation, primers, etc. It comes out green but it covers broken caps and acne. I find that it lasts very well and helps anything else I place on my skin over it to stay put. This is one product that I can’t live without. Hope this helps.

So today I got better coverage, I used a foundation brush that’s round but the end is cut off at a blunt angle so it’s quite dense and if anything the coverage was a bit cakey so I used my Real Techniques buffing brush to give a smoother, more natural finish.

The brush came from Cosmetics Plus for just 8 or 9 bucks but it’s really good, FakeFace is the brand, and it’s quite similar to the Shiseido one I’ve wanted for a while.

    BQ’s final TT review

I received this as part of BH’s trial team.

Bit of background to my skin – I have severely acne prone skin that tends to be oily/combination depending on the season. My acne ranges from blackheads, to the under-the-skin cystic lumps. Some areas of my face are flaky due to healing. I work in the hospitality industry, which affects my makeup’s staying power (due to heat, steam and general exertion).

Personally, I think this foundation would be suited well to someone with normal-mildly oily skin.

Firstly, the range of shades is really good – ranging from light skin (I’m using 115 ivory) through to dark colours (330 toffee), which makes it easier for everyone to find great colour matches with either yellow or pink skin tones. I find the packaging extremely convenient, rolling up like a lipstick or balm with a cap/cover that doesn’t come off easily, making it perfect to through in your handbag with no fear of leakage. It doesn’t look like a lot of product in the tube, but so far you don’t use much so at a guess will last 2-ish months. My main concern with acne and the application of stick foundations is the transfer of bacteria from broken skin/spots to the tube. I attempted to apply to my fingers before my face, but lost a lot of product. My suggestion would be to scrape product off and apply similar to a paste.

The foundation smooths over the skin extremely easily – almost to the point of gliding. It applies thickly, but works down to a light-medium coverage, which is buildable to medium to full. The easiest application is with fingers rather than a brush. I used this product on it’s own and over primer – it settled better around some of the flaky parts of my skin with primer.

Whilst this product claims to be shine free – and it is on initial application. It applies almost to the point of slightly chalky, but evens out within 15-30 minutes to a natural cover. It did protect my face from shine for a few hours, but after time (around 5-6hours) started to slide/melt away. It had the same effect as when I set it with powder and translucent setter. Although I had no success using it on it’s own, it helped improve the wear time of my liquid foundation.

Due to my acne I do prefer a full coverage foundation (merely for self esteem/self consciousness). Using primer, the stick foundation then my usual liquid foundation provided me with a great coverage solution that lasted a few hours longer than my usual liquid routine. I used this almost as a base coat for my face, and applied liquid then powder foundation.

On it’s own it’s more a natural light-med coverage, but combined with other products can be built into a flawless base. I’d recommend to anyone wanting a buildable foundation, or who is looking for a more natural, lighter foundation – as it’s specialty seems to me to be a flexible product that can work as little or as hard as you like. It’s easy application meant I could use more on areas that needed it most (chin/forehead) and still have it blend nicely.

On a side note – the price of this foundation is low – around $15-20 depending on where you shop, making it an inexpensive foundation.

My other gripe with this – having acne means I try to use anti-bacterial facial products, wash brushes etc. I’m applying this straight onto my face, where there are sometimes open marks/pimples that have burst (or, tsk tsk, I may have caved in pain and popped)…. I tried applying to fingers first, but you still contaminate it when you go back for another swipe.

Any ideas on combatting this? I can’t get it to spread properly without a brush, so can’t use that option. 🙁

Beautyqueen have you tried disposable sponges? Like the ones they use at cosmetic store counters?

Went a bit smeary and lost a lot of product!

I actually quite like this product-haven’t had any shine yet and today is the fourth time I’ve worn it all day. Even after sweating a bit at work today I didn’t find it came off-unless I wiped the sweat off.
I don’t have acne any more so thankfully am not trying to cover that up but I find I get a light to medium coverage. It feels so soft and easy to apply 🙂

Scrape a small amount of product off with a cotton tip and then use your fingers to apply.
