Matte Lipsticks – do people still wear them?

Hi Beauties,

Just wondering how popular Matte Lipsticks are these days? I recall many many years ago they were quite popular, and now I’m selling Avon and we have a line of them, but I’m wondering if they’d actually sell well compared to the creamier ones.

I myself prefer a creamier lipstick, as I feel the matte ones feel too dry on my lips. What about you – do you use a matte, or a cream/satin lipstick?

I love matte lips and there are tons out at the moment. They are always popular in winter! They are also much more comfortable to wear now. I like the rimmel kate moss lipsticks, maybelline matte pencils, besame and MAC mattes. Also australis do a clear, waxy lip primer called Matte Me which you can wear under any lipstick to make it matte.

I don’t mind whether a lipstick is matte, satin or cream-based. I just want a lipstick to be highly pigmented and not dry out my lips. A few lipstick (and lip gloss) formulas make my lips feel incredibly dry. And by dry, I don’t mean flaky or chapped lips; but just the feeling of dryness. I like the MAC matte lipsticks because they feel comfortable to wear.

It always makes me laugh how when you have lipstick on everyone stares at your lips… Or is it Just me lol…
I think matte lipstick is great as long as your lips are in good condition. If I wear a matte I’ll make sure ive put gloss on and hydrated my lips. And fine lines!!
Otherwise it sinks into lips. You can pull it off as long as it matches your makeup and its not too harsh.
I would say Maybelline matte pencils the new ones are a good option. I find there matt and ldry matte but don’t look ultra drying or super matte.

All my (Bite Beauty) lippies are matte, I had no choice in the matter. I love how creamy & pigmented they are, but they can be drying on my lips, despite the fact that I do all the prep in the world before application (lip scrub + lip balm). The dryness is worse if I use BB’s lip primer & definer, which I’ve been using as an invisible lip liner since I first bought one of their lippies. I’ve got issues with the peppermint oil in it, it just makes my lips feel like the Sahara + I’ve started having a reaction to it (I keep getting cracks in the corners of my mouth & flaky patches on my lips whenever I use it), so it’s time it met my rubbish bin. I won’t be sad to see it go because I didn’t like it anyway!

Matte lips (& nails) are huge at the moment. Matte doesn’t suit me at all, I’ve tried it. I love the longevity of mattes so I top with a gloss.

i love matte lipstick, the colour is more pigmented and it stays on my lip. to ensure that it won’t dry my lip out, i normally prep my lip with lip balm before applying my lipstick

I love their staying power. I prep with NYX lip primer, liner and then gloss over the top. Lasts all day. Love them. Great to contour your lips with ie. Use a lighter shade towards the middle to make them look plumper.

Wow, thank you so much. It sounds like Matte lipsticks have come a long way since I used them last (easily 15 years ago, and I must have picked a dry one as I was scared off and haven’t tried one since). You’ve helped alot everyone – thank you!

I love matte lipsticks are they are usually the ones that are the most long lasting. They are the best on the days where I’m busy and don’t want to constantly touch up!
