Make up testers save the day

Tough times call for bright ideas.
I was suddenly single and had been out of the paid workforce for many years. After applying for what seemed like hundreds of jobs,I was off to my first interview. I bought an outfit from an op shop, did my best with my old shoes, but had no money for make-up.
All dressed up, resume in hand, I headed for the tester stands at my local department store. I used cotton buds and disposable applicators to apply everything from primer to lip stick. I walked out of the store, and into my interview as a confident, professional woman.
That confidence secured the job, and I was able to go back and buy my very own make-up.

I love this story, it’s very touching actually. But remember everyone is beautiful without makeup as well.

Love this story, one to be proud of! Going from zero to having a job again is such a huge effort and certainly not easy in this economy.

There’s an organisation called Fitted for Work (fittedforwork.org) that helps women to enter/ re-enter the workforce and get them job ready. And one of the services it provides is giving women work clothes. I encourage people to check it out. They do great work!

It’s a real need in our communities. I’ve found that I certainly wasn’t alone. To scrape together the necessities to re-enter the workforce can be nearly impossible, and is just one of the problems we face in this difficult time.

I’d like to be able to give away more of my unused makeup – I wonder if anyone is out there giving clothes to women for interviews?
