Make up basics for beginner

I’ve never really worn makeup – mascara and eye liner is about as good as it gets for me. I think the issue is I don’t know where to start and what sorts of things to start off with in my make up kit. There are so many options and as a beginner it’s just to overwhelming. When I’ve tried to use foundation I find that it doesn’t look ‘flawless’ and I’d rather wear no make up then to make a fool of myself.

Can anyone suggest what would be essential for a beginners make up kit. Any suggestions on products to try would be handy too – I have hazel eyes & am fair skined.

edit how did everyone start out experimenting with make up?

    Hi girls!
Just wondering if anybody had a definitive list of essentials for makeup beginners (ie. foundation, mascara, concealer etc) and if you had any products to recommend as well!
    Thanks so much 🙂

Buy the thin Lizzy starter kit in big pink tin if u can!
Otherwise get the smaller blue tin and get the pink foundation power I like minx .
The consealer can cover tattoos and birth marks..
There brushes aren’t the best, but I do recommend the revlon or the nude Brush.
The eyebrow pencil and eye liner are great with sharpener included.

I think it all comes down to what your comfortable with. but I think a well rounded kit would give you
    A BB Cream
A Mid coverage Foundation (Australis do some great ones)
A Powder either a pressed or mineral (Essence or Australis)
Concealer (usually cream is easiest to work with)
Mascara (So many different types but Essence have one of every kind)
Eyeliner – Find your preference but a good black one is essential
    Lipbalm
Lipstick – A good colour that suits you in a few different formulas (shiny/matte etc)
Eyeshadow pallette (Models prefer do a great Nude pallette)

Brushes from Real techniques are good starters and If you want a way to get an easy flawless foundation base use a damp sponge completely fool proof almost.

With this start up you should have most of your bases covered. I would recommend looking at Essence for things like Blushes (the gradient ones) and a bronzer and highlighter.

Also find a good makeup remover and make sure you start with a good skin care routine and you’d be good to go.

What makeup remover would you recommend?

I remember when I first started I just started with concealer and eyeliner. I would recommend starting with a good liquid concealer because they’re easy to use on both under eyes and blemishes, but you got to master the dabbing and find what tool works best for you (fingers, concealer brush, or sponge).
Plus if you don’t need full coverage try starting with a bb or cc cream, I’d recommend loreal cc creams because you don’t have to worry about finding the right shade as they blend to your skin tone, especially great for summer when we tend to get a bit of a tan.
Or if you don’t mind lighter coverage just go for a powder as it’ll help keep the shine down during summer and also give you a bit of coverage depending on which one you get, for instance something like mac provides more coverage but something like db mineral powder gives light to moderate coverage
and also it’d be good to invest in a lip/cheek tint, but I wouldn’t start with the liquid ones because they’re a bit difficult to get the hang of, try the cream ones first they’re easier to work with

Hi Megan, I love that you’re passionate about your blog channel but could you refrain from posting your links on every topic. All I’m seeing is you’re links. I think if you post it in the dedicated blog and vlog topics people will be able to see it. Hope you understand!

Thanks for posting this Imi11, I was thinking the same thing. Welcome to the forum Megan, and I hope you enjoy being part of Beauty Heaven. Please be aware, though, that when your first 18 posts on the forum are promoting links to your blog channel it’s going to come across as self-promoting spam. We do have a dedicated thread, as Imi11 has indicated, where you can post links to your blog.

Thanks, Imi and Chicklet! My thoughts exactly and it could well be marked spam.
