Help, I look like a drunk!

Hi girls!
I have couple of make up problems that I’m hoping you could help me with:

#1: Whenever I wear eye make up, I always get comments like “You look tired” or “Oh wow you’re so drunk!”(I don’t even drink!).
I do all the eye opening/whitening tricks. white/ beige eyeliner on my water line, blue eyeliner or mascara, curling my lashes etc and I still get these comments.
I use different products, so I don’t think it could be an allergic reaction.
Anyone know what I could do to avoid looking like a sleepy drunk?

#2: I don’t like how my nose looks from the side. From the front it’s a cute little button nose but from the side it’s really long and develops this horrible hook when I smile!
I’m sure it doesn’t look so bad in real life but in candid photos, it’s AWFUL! anybody know a way of contouring the side of your nose?

I barely ever wear a lot of eye makeup. Just a darkish champagne colour in my crease because it makes my eyes look bigger I never do the winged eye because 1. I can’t do it lol and 2. When I can pull it off it makes me look more Asian than I already do. And I have absolutely no Asian in my blood whatsoever. Eye makeup is a tricky little b***h

Lawliet I think you look great!
Your ayes are a fantastic almond shape.
If you really want some good tips though, book in with a makeup artist or at a counter.
If you’re in Melbourne Kryolan do great ones.

Today I kept my eye makeup to a minimum and just wore mascara and put white liner on my waterline and in the corners of my eyes and _still_looked tired (my opinion). So maybe it’s not the eyes at all, like you ladies were saying, but my skin and the foundation/ blush I’m using (or not using)?

*Pinkswoon* and *Stackcats* I’m a bit of a blush-a-phobe, I worry it will make my face look to ‘caked on’ or too clown like! So thanks for the recommendations. This is a silly question but luminising foundation, that wont make my face too sparkly and shiny will it?

*Jaqueline* Thank you heaps! good to know we don’t have crazy eyes! I’ll definitely try you and your sisters tips the next time I go out. Of course, like you, still wear coloured eyeliner too…no crazy eyes will stop us lol

Thanks *Pink Hornet* I’ll do that, it’ll be good to have an expert look at my face and tell me what suits and how to correctly apply things!

*Petal* Thanks for those I’ve never heard of Wayne Goss, his tutorials are really good! and I like how he responds to comments on his videos.
As for commenting on someones appearance, I’m exactly the same! Even if they ask for my opinion I still say “It looks nice!” even if I hate it.

Thanks girls for the lovely compliments, I’m so embarrassed! hahaha
and thankyou Trish that’s _very_ kind 🙂

Lawliet, don’t be afraid of using blush 🙂 it adds on a nice rosy colour on your cheek. I would suggest don’t be a heavy handed when you apply the blush. Go light at first and if you think you need more colour you can always add on later. Otherwise, you can try the convertible colour from Stila. I’m in love with lillium as it is rather soft and natural colour. i usually apply the cream blush or tint after my foundation, before i use the loose powder, so the colour would just blended in nicely on the cheek.

What type of eye shape do you have? There’s different ways of applying eyeshadow to compliment your eye shape 🙂 You sound like you’ve got the brightening tips down pat though when it comes to the waterline and pop of colour. Maybe aim to lift your eyes by applying your eyeshadow in a cat’s eye manner if that makes sense. Do the whites of your eyes look redder than usual as well? More sleep and water, and a good depuffing eye cream can help.

As for contouring your nose, there are actually ways of making your nose appear smaller from the sides but honestly, I think your nose is fine.

Hi Jools, I just looked at the link.

The videos make her contouring look awful – it’s really not flattering. I’m no expert but looking at the end result for all 4 ways, it needs to be blended out more, the brown lines are very obvious and it shouldn’t be. The highlighter also needs to be used sparingly. Sorry if I sound judgmental but that contouring.. is not really contouring.

Can’t go wrong with this guy then 🙂

I can’t say that I contour very often (I prefer bronzing) but I was trying to help since most of the others addressed the eyeshadow but not the contouring. He says he’s also going to make another video soon for noses of different shapes so maybe that’ll be more helpful too

    Thankyou so much *misfortune8* 🙂
Cheers *Coconal* I’ll give that a go. I just hate how my photographs make my nose look so elongated!

*Seashells* If you can do it, I can do it lol. What kind of blush do you use? cream blush looks like it would be more ‘clowny’ then powder blush.

Thanks *Imi118* I was looking at some Bobbi Brown stuff today, the Tinted eye brightener sounds like it would do the trick!

Thanks again girls, you’ve been a fantastic help 🙂
I’m glad that I now have an excuse to go shopping hahaha

I use a powder blush, but it’s fairly pigmented, so I do have to be careful not to go overboard.

I don’t think it’s anything to do with your eye make up. By looking at your pictures it looks like you just have a simple case of dark undereyes! I think you should certainly look into Bobbi Brown’s corrector and conclears! They are fantastic! I think if you add blush or a bright lip, that would take the notice away from your eyes!

Lawliet I too am a bit of a blush-a-phobe (can’t see much wrong with your photos either), but I’ve had to try & conquer it otherwise I can look really pale in photos (and I’m pale enough already), especially with flash photography. I’m totally scared of the clown look too – I saw it once on a girl & the memory definitely stuck in my mind. I’m still concerned that I look like a clown at times, or that I haven’t got the right blush for my skin tone, or that I haven’t blended very well, but at least I’m trying to get over it.

Lawliet I am sure you don’t look like a drunk LOL! But your post did have me literally laughing out loud!!
I have wide feet, so when i go to buy shoes I tend to comment on needing something for my wide feet and without fail, other customers who hear me and the shop attendant always make a point of looking at my feet. LIke everyone has to see these freaky wide feet!! LOL!
You have in the same way bought out the curiosity of looking like a drunk with your make up LOL!

*Oonga*, I think my wide feet might be freakier than yours (not that there is a competition). My feet are so wide that I have to buy shoes or sandals from the mens section. On the rare occasion I buy ladies shoes, they are granny style shoes from a specialist footwear store.

Is there space in the “wide footed ladies” club for me too? Not only do I have wide feet, but I have long feet too – I’m about a 10 1/2 these days. It sucks because size 10’s are usually too small & size 11’s can be a bit big from time to time as well. Unless I get shoes made for me (which can be a bit expensive), I try & find shoes from Nine West, but even then the shoes aren’t always wide enough, nor can I find 10 1/2’s. I can’t win. :o( I don’t want granny OR men’s shoes!

Lawliet, you look great, honestly, I don’t see that you have anything to worry about at all!

If you really want to contour the side of the nose, grab a matte brown shadow and a liner brush and ‘draw’ a line down each side. Then, blend it out and your nose will appear much slimmer. But again, it really doesn’t look like it’s something you need to do.
